Hello,
I have a Kenwood 1090VR receiver which I love. Unfortunately, I discovered recently that I can't access the dual-room function of the receiver because it is only accessible from the remote--and I was shipped the wrong Kenwood remote when I got the system 2 years ago. I got the RC-R0805 (for the 1080VR) instead of the RC-R0905. They look almost 100% identical, except for the lack of the dual-room function.
Anyway, I figured I might as well get a new universal remote. This Sony looks nice. But my question is: will I be able to access this arcane function with the Sony using only the preprogrammed code for the Kenwood receiver? I can't use learning mode as I have the wrong remote which won't send out the right signal.
Thanks for your help,
Boris

Is this the 2100? (it probably doesn't matter, but that's what I have). Anyway, my guess is "no" to your question. But I could be wrong, and hopefully someone will correct me if so.
My reasoning: I have 2 Kenwoods, a 1060 and a new 407. The 1060 is maybe 3 years old, and is a similar model to your 1090, I believe. The Kenwood codes for the 2100 did not operate much of anything on the 1060 except a few really basic commands, I had to teach it most of the intricate receiver commands from the 1060 remote.
OTOH, the 2100 accepted a code for the new Kenwood 407, and a lot of the commands worked right off the bat with that one.
So I'm guessing here that older 1000-series Kenwoods are not covered well by the Sony codes, and newer 400-series are covered better. Just a guess, though, it could be more model-specific than that.
