I've read the reviews, but can any one who's used both units tell me what the big differences are. Currently my system is nothing but Sony (except for my satellite receivers) so other manufactures codes aren't that important. What I need (as opposed to what I want)is something that will consolidate all my remotes and I feel if the differences are minor then maybe an AV-2000 might be the better way for me to go.

I liked the 2100's ability to let you pick one of up to four different lables for each button.
You can put a Macro on each component select button ie, DVD button turns on TV and selects DVD input, turns on tuner and sets to DVD, turns on DVD.
There are only three Macro possibilities with the 2000.
Get the 2100.

More preprogrammed codes, much more learning memory, selection of button labels, more macros, plus additional minor ones.
