OK, I have the IR receiver, the x-10 6 in one remote. On trying to teach the Sony the X-10 commands I find the the crucial "X-10" command button will not program. Any ideas? The other functions like the number selection learn fine, but the X-10 command button is only monentary and will not program. Help!

What "x-10 command" button? There should be numbers from 1-16 (note that 16 is NOT made up of 1+6), On, Off, Dim, Bright, All On, etc.

I found the the button pressed to active the X-10 mode is not required to program the Sony. ie. on the 6 in one, you must press the X-10 command button to switch it to the X-10 mode. To program, all you need do is press the X-10 button, THEN go ahead and learn the number key buttons into the Sony. ahhhhhhh It works great! Better activation then with the 6 in One remote!!

Well if I can shed some light on this issue once
and for all, I think this would make some people's
life a little easier for the whole X-10 concept.

First of all, anyone trying to do the X-10 thing
needs to get an IR543 from X-10. This should be
obvious since this is the unit that will receive
your IR signal and transform it into X-10 codes
which it will send over the IR543 power cord.

Next, teaching your Sony 2100. Real easy. It's all
in the master code. If you have an X-10 6-in-1 remote,
forget about the X10 button, you don't need it. All
you need to do is program the master code to 014.
I believe that 013 transmits RF as well as IR, where
as code 014 transmits IR specifically for the IR543
unit. You can test it. After you change the master
code on your 6-in-1, point it to the IR543, choose
a numeric value and then ON. You don't even have to
use the X10 button here, the IR543 recognizes the
IR signals right away. See your user manual for your
6-in-1 on how to change the master code.

So, last but not least, program the numeric keys into
your 2100. I found a great component source to use
for X10. TAPE A/B. Make sure you program the remote
such that all of your numeric keys appear under TAPE
(1-9,0) then if you press TAPE again, this brings you
to the TAPE B screen, here you program keys 1-6 which
is really 11-16. Then use the collection of up/down/
left/right arrows on your Sony to learn the on/off/
dim/bright function. Numeric values 11-16 are
represented by the RW/PLAY/FF/REC/PAUSE/STOP buttons
on your 6-in-1 remote.
(see some other threads for the exact assignment
relationship).

That's it. Presto. X-10 works beautifully and I have
all of you guys to thank. Don't forget, you can then
use your X-10 function (TAPE) in the macro's you
program in the Sony. For example, when I hit the cable
button for 2 seconds (macro), not only does all my
gear power up, but my lights come on and dim as well.
If you want to get into some fancier X-10 macro's,
use your computer to program a lighting macro into
a specific numeric value. Then when you use this
numeric value on your Sony (TAPE), you will access
that macro.

Happy X-10'ing

Are you guys reading the responses? I took the time
to write 5 very long paragraphs in detail to explain
how to program the whole X-10 setup, even where the
ideal place is on the 2100 to teach all of the
commands.

I provided this info to make your life a little easier.
Why are you trying to use the X-10 button when my post
said you didn't have to. Read my post and you'll have
a smile on your face in no time. Full X-10 control...

Neil:

I can't speak for the other guy but I'm tracking you. I am well versed in X10, having automated my home including a wireless, X10 surveillance system. ANYWAY, I was checking the form to see if I could program the 2100 to operate my X10 system BEFORE I finalize an order for one. Thanks very much. I'm buying!

I dont knwo whether it is a fluke or similar, but I have a 1994 that without any programming, does its job with housecode F... any of you can try it and give a veredict.

Ricardo: Now are you sure the IR543 isn't simply set to code F? The IR codes don't contain housecode information. The Radio Shack remote *is* configured with X-10 as one of the default devices (for Radio Shack's version of X-10).
