The Sony Outlet in Elsinore (the same one with the $69 refurbs) has always sold 2100s for $139 new. That's where I got mine some time ago. Back when they were selling 2000s, though, they wanted full retail list ($169, was it?).

I just bought one at ecost.com for $99.95. With overnight shipping and "handling" it came to $118, and it did indeed come overnight. They also had it yesterday in their "countdown" area for $94.95.

I am fortunate enough to have family near Lake Elsinore. They paid 72 and change and shipped it UPS on Monday. Just got it. I think I'm gonna CRY!

Weird that the Elsinore outlet sells the 2100 new for 10 more than the Tracy store yet Elsinore is the only one to offer the refurbs. Go figger.

These prices are making my mouth water!

1) Since I'm a Canadian, living in Canada, I'm concerned that Sony Canada may not honour the warranty of a Sony remote distributed by Sony U.S.A. (Does anyone understand that???!)

2) If I decide to buy here in Canada, what would be a reasonable price to pay for the 2100 and where in the Ottawa, Kingston, Toronto area should I shop for said price? Daniel, you must have contacts...!

Many thanks in advance, Bob

If you have problems, a reputable web vendor should help you out. I had no qualms buying a Siemens Gigaset online (and saving over CAN$150 in the process, from http://www.dynadirect.com, if anyone cares).

Canadians seem to luck out with the 2100. US list is US$179, while Canadian list is CAN$199 (or US$129).
If you're after the absolute lowest price, then this is obviously still high, but it does show you can hop to a local retailer (e.g. a Sony Store) and buy a new unit at a very fair price. That's how I bought mine.

A web vendor who seems to have a very good reputation is J&R music (http://www.jandr.com), but you'll need to contact them by phone to get their "discount" price of US$129. A lot of trouble if you have a Sony Store nearby with one in stock.

The lowest price I've heard of for a new unit is from Popular Digital (http://www.populardigital.com) at US$98 (search for "av2100" to find it quickly). The advantage of Popular Digital over some other bargain sites is that they appear to ship to Canada. I have no idea what they're like, however, or more specifically how well they support their customers.

Good points, Jeff. Daniel also mentioned the relatively lower S.R.P. in Canada.

I have looked in the Ottawa and Kingston areas for a few months now with no luck. I was beginning to think that only high end specialty shops carried the 2100. Last week I got my first look at one when I ran into a 2100 in a small electronics store called Batteries Plus in a Kingston mall. Perhaps I've just been unlucky in my search. I'll try again with renewed vigour !
