CBS has opted not to order additional episodes of new medical drama series Pure Genius beyond its original 13-episode pickup. The series will wrap production on Dec. 15 after completing Episode 13. Pure Genius is not being formally canceled and theoretically remains in contention for a Season 2 renewal though its chances are considered slim at best. All produced episodes are expected to air, and the series will remain in its Thursday 10 PM slot for the time being.
     Pure Genius, from Universal TV and CBS TV Studios, has been a soft but stable performer, opening with a 1.1 Live+same day adults 18-49 rating and logging a 0.9 demo L+SD rating for its three subsequent airings.

 CBS is not ordering additional episodes of the third season of “The Odd Couple,” which will run 13 episodes.  However, the show is not cancelled and will remain in contention for a fourth season, though ratings will likely have to improve for the comedy to score a renewal.

   CNG currently airs on CITY, WNYO and WHAM locally; no new episodes are currently scheduled.

  Jenna Bans’ drama Good Girls has landed a formal pilot pickup.  The project is about three “good girl” suburban wives and mothers who suddenly find themselves in desperate circumstances and decide to stop playing it safe, risking everything to take their power back.

   NBC is giving two midseason comedies, Trial & Error (March 7) and Great News (April 25), The Voice lead by scheduling them back-to-back in an hour-long block. Meanwhile, the third new NBC midseason comedy series, the DC Comics-themed Powerless, will air behind Superstore on Thursdays. NBC’s midseason Thursday lineup also will include The Blacklist spinoff Redemption subbing for the mothership series in the 10 PM hour.

    Beginning March 5, cop drama Shades of Blue starring Jennifer Lopez, which aired in the Thursday 10 PM slot last spring, is moving to the post-football NBC Sunday lineup, which also will include the return of Little Big Shots and the latest offshoot of Dick Wolf’s Chicago franchise, legal drama Chicago Justice.

       Candace Cameron Bure saying she can no longer handle the bicoastal life made necessary by her acting career, hence she is leaving THE VIEW.

                            

     The untitled show written by Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives) will air on ABC and star Reba McEntire who will also co-executive produce.

      Described as a Southern Gothic soap opera, the show is set in motion after a horrible, suspected act of terrorism happens at a 4th of July parade in the small town of Oxblood, Kentucky. The FBI sends a cocky agent of Middle Eastern descent to investigate. He teams up with the mercurial local Sheriff (McEntire) to uncover secrets far darker than either could have ever imagined.

     ABC is extending its episode orders for six of its comedies, Variety has confirmed. “The Middle,” “American Housewife,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” “The Goldbergs,” “Speechless,” and “Black-ish” have all been given marching orders for additional episodes. “Black-ish” and “The Goldbergs” are a go for two more, for a total season order of 24; the rest have all had one ep added, for a total of 23 each.
