It is at their end indeed but I think that HDGeorge is right when saying it is at both ends, the TV Station PSIP data and our tuners software as well. Otherwise how do you explain that most users apparently had no problem at all.

Like Daniel also pointed out some tuners might be more inmune to changes in the PSIP data since some of them do not seem to update or try to re-read the data dynamically everytime but rather just one time when the tv channel was scanned in the first time. That "behaviour" does not mean one tuner is better than the other it is just the nature of the beast I guess. In any case letting the tuner manufacturer know will allow them to release a firmware update that might adress this issues in the future.

I am glad you both now can enjoy your favorite US shows on Canadian CTV HD, ... just kidding.

Well, there should be better error rejection, to the point where a corrupt PSIP doesn't make a receiver crash or reboot. Plus, since these kinds of problems seem to happen a fair bit, it would be nice if all receivers cached PSIP data in case of such problems (like mine), but still checked to see if something has changed (unlike mine).

Yeh...the two channels I was having problems with were CTV and City (though I still don't get City). About the only Canadian content on those two channels is the news...barely.

Well CityTV might have more canadian content specially day shows and some sporadic night series. But your problem not getting CityTV should not be related to this PSIP issues but more likely antenna related. CityTV HD unfortunaelly still broadcasts with so low power level that it is hard to get even in nearby Mississauga.

I'm so glad it is not just me having trouble with CFTO sound! I have no sound at all since February.

I am in East York, a neighbourhood of Toronto, and another buddy about 6 blocks away is having the same problem. I don't seem to be having the Scanning problem that others have, but I have not rescanned since March 1. Before Christmas, CFTO added Described Video to more and more programs and my LG HD TV could not remove it.

I emailed CFTO, from the General contact info section of the CTV.ca website. I asked them to relay my message to a staff member who could help with the OTA audio signal. A very nice man emailed me on March 10, asking for my location and stations that I could receive normally.

He did not seem to be aware of others with the same problem, so I advise all to email. They can't fix it if they don't know there is a problem. I would report the scanning problem to CTV.ca as well.

CFTO was a great signal with good shows and great news. I miss them and I hope they resume their high quality audio signal.

Not sure how your tv setup works, however, try a few things first, before a rescan, can you delete CFTO chn only, then add manually, check the audio settings on this channel only AND try different settings, it does not sound like an rf reception problem otherwise there would be no video or sound.

A corrupt PSIP causes other problems.

For 9-1 CFTO on 40, Jeff at CTV suggested that I try rescanning, then manually add 40-1, then turn my rotor towards the CN tower, rather than the US.  I'm in East York.

It worked, I got my sound back on CTV.

No sound on CFTO again, I fear -- a temporary fix. At night, CFTO again had no sound and resetting the antenna rotor does not help. I will advise them.

Cocoa, can you also mention to them that CFTO's PSIP is a bit of a mess right now? I just checked via TSReader and found there's no STT (system time table), EIT (event information table) or ETT (extended text table) in the datastream. Perhaps your tuner is sensitive to this.

For the past month or so, my TVGOS has all the CFTO information channel 0, not 9. I guess it's because of messed up EIT and ETT

Looks like CFTO has the same issues again as of Friday April 1, 2011, my HD receiver justs flashes between video (no audio) and updating channel bank data.

Cannot get out of this loop, have to disconnect antenna and change channels, why oh why does CTFO only have this problem.

Could it be that Bell just bought them and they want us to use Bell Expresview? AND not OTA?

Even from the last time this issue occurred, many e-mails to CTV at their "[email protected] went unanswerred, not even an acknowledgement.

So I do not expect much this time around.

If this problem happens after August, both Industry Canada and CRTC will be notified, now we are just part of an experimental crowd.
