Just a note that this list is still current.

Hello Daniel
I just bought a DHG-HDD500 DVR , when the unit is shut off, the hard drive keeps on running this puts a lot of unnecessary wear and tear on drive. Can you tell me if there is a way to shut down the hard drive when it is not being used ? or did I miss something in the instruction manual ? Thanks Kurt

Nope, nothing you can do, the drive just never shuts off. Incidentally, unless heat generation is a problem, then what's harder on a hard drive is actually startup/shutdown cycles, not just spinning.

Rogers encrypts them. So you need authorization to receive them (ie. pay them money). In the US, local HDTV networks are almost always unencrypted since it's your "right" to receive them if you pay for the SD versions. Not so with Rogers. I just stumbled upon this and was curious if it is a right for those in the US? I have Adelphia analog and digital silver cable (SD only). The Scientific Atlanta SD box decrypts all of the SD ones I pay for but I do have an ATSC/QAM that I use for OTA HD. By plugging my cable into there, I can get the "Music Choice" channels, PPV previews, and HDNet and HDNet Movie (In HD). They seem to scramble all of the locals though. Not that I care, they are OTA, just wondering... I know this thread isn't about Adelphia, but as an update to the post above I re-scanned the other day and can get WGRZ, WIVB, WKBW, WNED, Music Choice (SD), HDNet and HDNet Movie.

I recently bought Samsung SIR-T451, which is QAM capable, and based on your posting I expected to be able to get some HD channels of the Rogers cable. Unfortunately I was not able to receive any channels at all. Any ideas why it could happen? Did anyone with Samsung SIR-T451 manage to receive HD feed from Rogers?
Any help will be much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure that my list doesn't show any available HD channels. If you want those you have to rent a box from Rogers.
As to why you don't get anything... could be your neighborhood is not digital ready; there's a filter on your line; or something else. Also, the SIT-T451 is supposed to only have "limited" QAM capabilities... not sure exactly what that means.

Just thought I'd mention that I now have a second QAM tuner and it gets the same list of stuff as my original. Although it also creates a count of *all* QAM stations received (encrypted or not)... and it claims Rogers has 428 QAM and 70 analog where I am.

Well, if you fully cancel then chances are they are going to disconnect or filter your line, which would wipe these channels out.

Are any of the Rogers channels found here in HDTV? I scanned the list but they all seem to be in SD

Does anyone know which form of modulation rogers is using for these channels? Is it 64-QAM or 256-QAM ? Just curious as to whether you can also receive these using a 64-QAM compatible OTA tuner, or are at least some of the channels in 256-QAM ? EDIT: oh, forget it, I answered my own question. If anybody needs to know, it's 256-QAM, so you really can't receive any of it unless you have a digital cable tuner capable of tuning to 256-QAM.
