I've got this RCA universal remote that I'm trying to get working with a Toshiba M-651C VCR.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Sorry about the flash glare, but you can see that there's no Code Search button, and no Enter button. There's a SEARCH button, but (a) I get the feeling that it's part of the TV controls, and (b) even if it worked as Code Search, I don't see how to "fix" a searched code without an Enter button.

I've tried keying in the numerical codes for Toshiba VCRs, but none of the 3-digit codes work. I saw another thread linking to 2-digit codes for RCU500 variants, but they didn't work either.

Any suggestions? I suppose it could be a problem with the M-651C, but that works OK with its own remote.

Thanks.

It looks like a RCA VCR oem remote, it may not be programmable for other vcr brands, if it is, try the following codes: 005, 013, 019, 048, 049.

When programming try both VCR 1 and VCR2 /LD devices. To enter code:

1. press and hold the device key while you enter the 3 digit codes above.

That's interesting to know, and would explain why I can't find a picture of the thing in any of the two dozen manuals I've downloaded.

Interestingly, (what I think must be) the default TV code controls power, channel, and volume on an old Zenith TV I have.

When programming try both VCR 1 and VCR2 /LD devices.

The codes you mentioned are what I had tried for VCR 1. I hadn't thought to also try VCR 2 but... no luck.

It would be interesting to see whether I could get it to control some other VCR, but I don't have any handy.

Thanks again.
