In searchig for the expensive Tadiran TL-2100 batteries, I found another, much cheaper alternative. Allied Electronics sells the PT-2100 Keeper II from Eagle Picher for only $3.70. While they look a little rough around the edges, they have exactly the same specs as the Tadirans (3.6v lithium, slightly lower mA - at 1800).

I installed two of these with two cheap Alkalines and the backlight is perfect. Highly recommended for a cheap, safer solution (total voltage under 10). Also, the IR is much better.

Now if I could only get the screen to be readable without the backlight!

This remote is SO MUCH easier to set up and use than the Pronto, and it works great. (...and only $100CAD direct from Harman Kardon in Quebec!)
