Harman/Kardon is selling refurbised TC-1000s at $99. Do you think they are worth it at that price? [Link: harmanaudiooutlet.com]

This is a great deal!! For about $5.00 you'll be able to change out the LEDs and convert it to a 9 volt power supply (see threads this forum) and you'll have a remote that easier to program than a Pronto and not that much less in functionability.... I think I'll buy a couple and fix them up for my son and daughter.

These mods are relatively simple to do: Go to Radio Shack and get a couple 9volt NiMH rechargables (so you'll always have one charged) along with a charger. Go into the battery compartment of the TC1000 and remove the fins that separate the AAs. Solder on a 9volt battery connector to the + and - springs in the compartment - hook up a charged 9volt and you have a nice bright screen - mine's been this way for about a year - no problem - change out batteries about every two weeks. As for the LED change out -- while you're at Radio Shack get a package of two #276-143 IR LEDs - Open up the TC1000 case and get to the existing LEDs - snip them off about 1/2 way up the connection legs and solder the new LEDs on to the remaining legs of the old LEDs (there are "threads" in this forum to show/explain how this is all done) search using "LED" or "extended range"

That is a very good deal. The HK TC1000 is a very nice remote. I just might get another. Maybe for Xmas presents.
