Is there a difference between the two? Has anyone experienced the same problems with both? Seems that most of the complaints are against the IRIQ.

I have only had my HK for a few days. So far I have had a lot of fun fine tuning the activity screens.

I have not experienced the range problems some have remarked about nor has it locked up or misbehaved. So far so good.

Regards,

Dave

The two units are identical.

I find this amazing that the only people that complain about their IRIQ/HK remotes are those that have the IRIQ. What is even more interesting is that IRIQ has a better warranty. Who manufactures the units? Is it the same company for both?

Physically the remotes appear identical - I would suspect the only difference is the silk screening and software.

Consider MPEG chips: many DVD manufacturers use the same MPEG chip sets, but we all know that DVD player quality varies greatly. Same with PC's. I think that HK and Madrigal work from the same schematics, but order and build their own remotes.

Amazing: Possible, though unlikely. Both Harman/Kardon and Madrigal are owned by the same parent company - Harman Intl. It would be a waste of resources to have two manufacturing plants making the same identical remote.

According to Home Theater Magazine who reviews these two this month (Mar/99) the pair from Madrigal and HK are identical with the retail price difference coming from the fact that the Madrigal dealer will preprogramm the remote for you....

Both remotes, the TC1000 and the IRIQ are made by HK. The TC1000 is more user friendly because it is made to be programmed by the consumer. The IRIQ is pregrogrammed with less codes and devices because the dealer needs to program it for the consumer. The $50 price different goes to the dealer for programming the unit. (TC1000 - MSRP $349 and IRIQ - MSRP $399). Most people buying the unit wants to program it themselves. and that is why a lot of people are having problems. Those who let the dealer program it have very few problems. If you like the IRIQ, buy it and have the dealer program it for you. Take it home and save the program on your computer and then try to fool around with it. If you have problem, restore the dealer program. Remotes are meant to be used to control your units and not spend hours figuring out what to do.

This is not a technical advice but I hope it helps.

The dealer has the *OPTION* to add some preprogramming for Madrigal components and the warranty is longer on the IRIQ. Otherwise these units are the same with the same software and IR code database.

If someone had all Madrigal and chose the IRIQ preprogramming it may indeed go smoother. Come to think of for $50.00 this could never work that great with 1000 of TV's, Projectors, Screens, X-10, there is no way a good job could be done remotely and there is no way a dealer could justify a house call and the work for $50.00. I suspect they just add the Madrigal components and that's it. Then the user is on his for the rest.

It would be very difficult for a dealer to program components that are not in the library and he does not sell (very possible). Which would involve a trip to your home etc, for $50.00 no way.

Why didn't I READ these messages first! I just started programming the HK version and the main reason I got it was my (Madrigal)Proceed AVP, which I expected it to know coming out of the box or at least download from the CD-ROM. Now I find out this thing doesn't even know what a pre-amp/pros. is. Yes I'll pay to have a dealer program it, will they do it(for $50) if I bought it elsewhere? Oh yeah, does anyone want my Mark II? It's only a week old, and also way over my head.

I'd left the Take Control with my Madrigal dealer to program 'cause my Proceed was not emmitting IR. He tells me that Madrigal is about to supply dealers with a new download for IRIQ but it will NOT work on Take Control Units. I had offered to pay him to program the TK (I'd bought it on the net) so I have to take him at his word. Bottom line..Madrigal says an IRIQ is NOT the same as a TAKE CONTROL. And I'm getting used to the Mark II now, even though I've yet to program macros.
