First Great Site Daniel I have sent youe address to several people already
I was very intrested in all the comment on the various universial remotes. I have a home theater in my home in florida and use a very expensive AMX controller there so I was intrested in how good these less expensive controllers were for some more general home use. I too suffer from the confused wife problem with all the remotes. I purchased a Hardon Karmon unit for my son for christmas and was initally not overly impressed but the more I played with it the more I wanted one. The major area it hase over all the other remotes is the GUI interface that allow u to difine all the buttons. Activity screens allow you to place buttons from any remote on a single screen. The wife dosent even have to know she is controlling numourous devices from a single screen. you can even set up the macros to activate as youi enter the screens. I got rid of all the number buttons in favor of deciated channel buttons tied to a macro that wsitches to that channel (fox ,NBC ECT) .This coupled with the roller bar for channel slection makes live VERY SIMPLE.
Two complains are the audio feedback on the touch pannel is non existant in a room with the tv running. Because the unit is slow to react you can actually keep cancleing out what you are trying to do by repeatly touching the button thinking it hasent taken.
The other problem with this type of controller are the toggle type of buttons . That is there is no positive position for them they go to the opposite state of wherever they are when you touch the button. Power is a good example of this . If you had a macro that turned on the power you could easily turn off the unit if it were already on. This on got me on the Video input of my sony tv as it has three positions it steps thru ,ON-Air, Video and S-Video you cant pick one with a macro and go to it you just get the next one in order when you hit the video button . Dosent make for predictable macros.
In spite of the short ccommings it is quite a BARGIN compared to what I have invested in the AMX unit and I purchased a second one for my home here in Mich
