Hi to all,
I purchased a new cabinet to hold our components: vcr, dvd player, receiver - all Sony - and cable box. The cabinet is being built now. When ordering it I asked for a locked door with smoked tempered glass, because we have two small children and they like to put things in the VCR. The cabinet maker assured me that I could buy a universal remote that would work with components housed in a cabinet behind a solid wood door.

So now I'm getting nervous because I don't know a thing about universal remotes. I think I will need a radio universal remote, rather than an infrared remote, correct?

Can anyone advise me on the type of remote that I will need, and recommend models? Thanks so much for your time, have a great weekend,
Carol

If the door is "smoke tempered glass" you can use any IR remote, if the door is solid wood, you will need a remote with an RF extender.

If it's the latter, I would recommend either the Radio Shack 15-2117 or the One For All URC-9910.

If you have more money to spend then <$50 the two remotes Rob suggested will cost. There's the HTM mx-600, its the RF version of the very popular mx-500, cost about $190. URC the makers of the MX series remotes, has just come out with 3 new RF remotes, URC-100, 200,& 300. For more info on these remotes see here;
