Is it possible to use a sony cassette deck unit without having original remote or any codes and be able to use all its functions thru the RS 2117?

The Sony TAPE setup code is 0243, its present in the 2117. What commands aren't mapped can be added using these advanced codes. The big question is whether the TAPE deck has a IR sensor or you have Sony receiver to accept the R commands.

Will you guide me thru this process? I have the manual but cannot find which feature to use. I have a Sony tc-wr665s, using code 0243, I am able to play, rewind, fast forward only on tape deck A, nothing works for tape deck B. thanks!

I don't have sony, but it looks like UEI (the maker of the remote) treats the sony tape deck similar to pioneer(MINE). Separate setup codes for each deck, looks like deck B is setup code 0170. What I do, is keymove both decks to the receiver device, deck A- the cursor pad, deck B-the transport keys. I'm sure you don't want to waste two devices on you Tape deck, You might want to just combine deck A & B into one device. Easiest way, program the device with code 0170, the keymove the PLAY key to the UP cursor, STOP to the DOWN cursor, and so on. after that reprogram with code 0243. For example, using the AUDIO device programmed with TAPE code 0170:

1. press AUDIO
2. press and hold P
3. scroll down to kEYMOVER
4. press SELECT
5. press AUDIO
6. press PLAY
7. press AUDIO
8. press UP cursor

Continue for STOP-DOWN, FF-RIGHT, RR-LEFT

Before you reprogram the device with code 0243, you want to add the REVERSE PLAY to the SELECT key:

1. press AUDIO
2. press and hold P
3. scroll down to KEYMOVER
4. press SELECT
5. press AUDIO
6. tap P, do not hold
7. enter 4-9-8
8. press SELECT- I missed a step
9. press AUDIO
10. press SELECT

B_MAN, you will find alot more info on your remote in the "One For All / Radio Shack" forum, plus it's a better place to ask questions than here in the general forum.

edmund, it took me a while, but I believe I have made it! only thing, Im having trouble with REVERSE PLAY. I have programmed 0170 BUT how can I have REVERSE PLAY on tape deck A 0243? Im trying to program 0170 and 0243 to the same button "SELECT" as REVERSE. Can it be done? what do you suggest?

Looks like reverse play for setup code 0243 is 045. The CURSOR PAD is setup code 0170 and the transport keys at the bottom of the remote will be programmed with setup code 0243 right? So I would choose a key closer to them, like AUDIO or VIDEO keys. You can program commands to shifted keys, so SELECT is reverse play for 0170, and P+SELECT is reverse play on code 0243. to program a shifted key:

1. press AUDIO or whatever device you're using
2. press and hold P
3. scroll down to KEYMOVER
4. SELECT
5. AUDIO
6. tap P
7. enter 0-4-5
8. SELECT
9. AUDIO
10. tap P
11. pick a key, like SELECT

On the other hand, the 15-2117 is an 8 device remote, so if you do happen you have a spare device button, you could just use one device button for each tape deck.
