I've got a Sherwood Receiver model # RA 1140? Can anybody tell me what kind of remotes will work with it?

You're new here, aren't you?

Sorry, I'm not usually this cheeky.

I don't normally like to assume anything, but can I assume you DON'T have the remote that originally came with your receiver?

No, I don't have the original remote. Wish I did...

The OneForAll 8810 at Walmart, and several Sony remotes I checked, have codes for Sherwood receivers. I checked some Radio Shack remotes and didn't find any codes, so (I'm assuming you are in the US) you could try the 8810, which is easily returnable if it doesn't work, or the Sony RM-VL700 or RM-VL900, also returnable. I can't guarantee they will provide all the control of the original remote, but you should get enough to control the receiver.

You also have the option of getting a more costly computer programmable remote. I can't speak for the JP1ers out there, but if the codes for your receiver exist (I.E. if others have learned the original remote to a computer programmable one), most computer enabled remotes will give you full functionality. But it comes at a cost. Expect to pay $100 or more.

You might also want to edit your subject line. If you think about it, everybody posting here "needs help", but this is a general forum where people post questions about many different sorts of remote controls, and most of the experts here just surf the subject lines to see which threads to respond to.

Chances are that many Sherwood owners have already surfed right past this thread.

I would recommend a title like "Need remote for a Sherwood Receiver, model RA 1140"
