Hello -

I have purchased a Denon AVR-4802 which comes with the RC-8000 remote control. I'm trying to set it up to control my other components, but can't even get off the ground!! The manual says to hold the "setup" button for at least 3 seconds, but I can't seem to locate the button! The manual shows it as being located under the "system call" icon, but my remote won't let me scroll past the "system call" icon. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks.

If you touch the down arrow when the System Call icon is at the bottom of the screen, the setup button should appear.

If you figure out how to use the Denon software to configure the RC8000 let me know.

Exactly what problem are you having with the software? I've been using it for over a year with good results. Essentially I design all of the screens with the software, then program the buttons with the original remotes. There are some annoying issues. For example: when I added our Tivo, the software only allows one screen, so I had to be selective which buttons I installed. Also when uploading or downloading, sometime the transfer chokes on itself, and is stops at 1%. Usually a reboot or sometimes just disconnecting and reinstalling the remote from the PC solves the problem. You cannot customize any of the icons either, so some of my devices on the drop down list are blank. (My wife love's her Tivoman icon, and anything to get her to use the remote i'll try.)

All in all, it's decent for what it is, but far from the far reaching potential that the remote itself promises. I wish there was a better option for a small fee, or that either Denon or Atkis open the code up for those of us that have one to make these remotes really sing. Sorry for the long winded response, feel free to contact me with any questions.

I can bring the info from the Denon to the PC and edit the screens. I can't seem to get the info back into the remote. It just seems to hang up. Any suggestions would be a great help.

This sounds like the problem I was having, and it'a a pain since there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it. It would stop at 1% and hang. I had to remove the device and reboot, and usually this worked. I'm running Windows 2000, so I don't know if the problem is OS specific. However, I have not had this problem the last few times I've updated my remote, and with the recent addition of XM radio at home, I'll be adding more controls in the near future and we'll see if the problem reappears.

I have had my system for over a year...no problems. Just changes to TIVO and the Sony 400 Disc DVD chngr and now have difficulty updating system. Atkis and Denon software updates were out of service for a while...I have no idea how to "Teach" my remote. I have a Samsung Satelite / Tivo receiver....what codes are there to controll this.....will it just be a DBS or is there a learning tool that I have yet to discover.....I would like to get the most out of this thing...please e-mail answers to [email protected] thanks

Email me privately and I can help. I've had Tivo added to my 5800, and it's worked well, but...
There ARE limitations.
Actually one, and that is you are limited to only one page of buttons. Which ones to choose are up to you. Also, Denon has FINALLY replaced the RC-8000 link on their US Web page. It's now at the bottom middle of the page.
