Hi All:

I used this great web site 3 years ago to decide to buy a Pronto 1000 to control all my new home theater equipment. It was a great purchase and replaced 8 remotes. I had to create screens and macros but it made navigating my system a lot better.

I had a Xmas party at my house on Sunday and somehow the screen was cracked. I can still use the CHANNEL and VOLUME buttons, but no longer can use the screens.

So I need to buy a new remote. I really enjoyed the Pronto, although the Pronto Edit software didn't work well with Windows 2000 and now XP. So I really didn't update my screens as I would have liked the last couple years. However, it still worked 85% to my satisfaction. Now I'm at a decision point.

I do not know yet if I can download from the Pronto and maybe save my setup. I also have the docking station and the remote was always up and running.

Suggestions? Here are my questions. Responses/help will be much appreciated.

1. Is the Pronto still the best remote in the $200-$350 price range, especially considering I have a docking station invested and maybe can save the setup and reapply to another Pronto?

2. If I stay with Pronto, should I buy the 2000 or wait for the 3000? (Is the 3000 available?) Will the 2000 use the same CCF setup and docking station?

3. Is it possible that my existing Pronto can be repaired if the screen is cracked and the touch screen doens't work?

FYI, my system includes:

Denon receiver
Sony DVD
Sony 54" TV with 5 video selects (I use them)
Sony VCR
Sony 200 disk CD changer
Sony satellite receiver
JVC VCR

I'm planning on getting rid of the DVD and one (or maybe both) of the VCRs and getting a Philips DirecTiVo and a combo DVD/VCR unit.

Any help suggestions would be most appreciated.

Sid

1) yes, still the best touchscreen remote. The only other remote to consider in that range is the Harmony SST-786

2) the 2000 uses the same CCF but you will need to use PE 4.x if you have not downloaded it already. 3000 uses PCF, but PENG can supposedly convert CCfs to PCFs
(you can use the 1000 DS with the 2000 but not the 3000)

3) I would guess yes, [Link: remotecentral.com]
