Hi all. I've been lurking on these boards for a couple of years now, but believe it or not, am just now registering an account!! I've been able to find most of what I need simply by browsing, so I didn't see any need to clutter the boards needlessly.

I bought an HTM SL-9000 and I have loved it except for 2 things:

(1) EATS batteries
(2) VCR transport buttons double as cursors

I am (potentially) in the market for a new remote. My research is currently pointing to the following remotes:

One For All URC-8910 ($25)
RCA RCU-810B ($40)
Radio Shack 15-2116 ($30)

I would like for the new remote to be able to handle some of the more sophisticated functions (especially surround sound and PIP) which is why I am looking at ones with lots of buttons. Price is also important which is why I am NOT looking at touchscreen models.

Here is my equipment list:
Amp/Tuner - Sony STR-D965
TV - Sony Trinitron KV-32S45
Cable Box - Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3250
VCR - Sony SLV-975HF
DVD - Microsoft Xbox (RCA codes??)
CD Player - Sony CDP-C745

Can anyone offer any advice? Also, on a side note, what is a JP-1 cable? I haven't been able to find it in Daniel's glossary.

Thanks in advance.

Those 3 remotes (and others) you mentioned have the ability to connect to a computer through a special cable. You will find "jp1" written next to the connector in the remote. There is software written by users of the remotes that can program even complex macros and buttons that the remote doesn't know out-of-the-box. Any of those remotes should work for what you need, esp if you want to go the jp1 route with them. (it isn't necessary to use jp1, just adds a lot of capability)

Check out www.hifi-remote.com or the One For All forum here for more help.
