I am going to be purchasing the Sony KV-34XBR800 hi-scan widescreen and a progressive scan DVD player. I am looking for a remote under $200 that will allow me to program the keys so that the power button always operates the TV, the volume buttons always operate the TV and the channel buttons always operates the cable box. The buttons for DVD and VCR would be the only buttons requiring selection. Later on, I plan to buy an A/V receiver. I want to make it easy for myself as well as my mother(in her 70s) when she comes over.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Most of the ueic remotes will do that too. 8811 (and WW clone 8810W); 8910/9910 OFA's, RS 2116/2117, RS 2104, etc. You want "Volume Punch Thru" or VPT, where the receiver will operate the volume and the remote stays in the cable mode for channel, menue, guide, etc.
A host of macros can be set up to power up different devices depending on what you want to listen to/watch. And most (except the RF models) run 30.00 or less. The 2116 is particularly nice, read some of the comments posted in the One For All Forum.

Thanks, guys, for all of the invaluable advice and suggestions. The OFA 8910 looks promising and will fit my current budget.

Faisal,
Nice job intruding your post in someone elses' and we can't even tell if it's related, but sure doesn't look that way. Discrete hex code for what? what remote? If it's a panny tv remote how would knowing the discrete hex code help? How about a NEW post and more information.

Looks like Faisel figured this thread was for any newbie needing advice. Should we direct him to the "need code for remote" thread?

Rob, I cast my vote for the MX-500, which not coincidentally is the one I own... :) -Bruce
