Hi
I work for a company called Systemteq Ltd, who create control systems for 5* hotels. We require an important piece of equipment.

We're looking for a very simple "touchscreen" handheld device, which we can program ourselves with our own user interface, e.g, load the flash memory with our own screen interface.

This device must use **** RF **** ONLY, for transmitting simple control messages to our micro-controller. We've already contacted philips about pronto-pro RU970...but seems it is only IR.

Any ideas on where to ideally purchase a programmable device like this, or how to put one together.

we would be extremely grateful for any help you could supply us with, thanks

HUW,

There simply aren't any existing remotes like you've described. There's a ton of variables you never even touched on, like Power: how far does this thing have to be abvle to operate? we talkin 10-25 feet in one room tosome command cennter, or all over a sprawled hotel complex? How many different functions?
Don't bother answering, I couldn't help anyway. What about frequency? You got any idea of how BROAD "RF" ranges? Doing each individual hotel on it's own would compound your problem!!
However, UEIC does have some experience with 1. touchscreens, and 2. RF. I'd suggest contacting them and seeing if they can come up with your solution. With your requirements, no doubt it'll be "pricey".

Any universal remote that has an RF feature, transmits RF signals that are only designed to be understood by a base unit that comes with the remote. However, if you were to reverse-engineer the RF signal, you could program your MCU to recognize it.

As for the touchscreen features that you desribe, the Pronto is the only one that will let you do this.
