Dogs are great -- but keep the remotes away from them!

I have a Toshiba TW40H80 16:9 TV but its remote is barely usable having been used as chew toy by my two Australian Shepards.

The challenge for me is to get a universal remote which can activate the features of the TV, most importatntly, "Picture size" so I can take advantage of the wide screen display. I also don't want to spent hundreds of dollars of a remote to do this.

I have a Sony DTS/Dolby receiver and VCR and a Toshiba 2106 DVD player as well. Most preprogrammed low-end remotes have the usual functions covered, but I haven't found out how to change the pic size on my TV.

Help!

Bob

Bob,
Maybe a visit to your local taxidermist will cure your problem? I know a chinese restaurant that might give you a couple bucks apiece.

If your remote is going to continue to be chew toys, and you don't want to drop a lot each time you need to replace your remote, you might consider the Wal-mart (some) carried urc 8810W. A bit more than "low-end"; but pretty powerful and versatile. You could save your final configuration on your pc, then when replacement time came, it's be a matter of seconds to have the new one set up just like the chew toy.
Maybe get three, one for each of them, and one for you that you keep out of their reach. They'll fit right in their Christmas Stockings and would make a nice X-mas gift for them.

Bob,
What you need is a One For All or Radio Shack remote as most of these support "advanced codes" which will allow you to program any functions that aren't automatically programmed as part of the built-in setup codes.
