Hi,
I'm looking for a low-cost universal remote I can use to replace the ones I currently have.
These are: General Instrument Digital Cable Box, Konka DVD Player, Optimus VCR, Yamaha home entertainment system and an RCA television. At some point in the future a TiVo might be added to the mix.
I'd like to be able to program the remote to perform all the functions on all the remotes. In addition, I would like to be able to turn everything on/off with one button and the volume control would always work through the home entertainment system (not the cable box) unless i'm in TV mode when it would operate the TV volume.
Any suggestions?

A OneForAll URC-8811 (or URC-8810w - the same thing, but sold at Wal-Mart) should do everything you suggested for around $20. Other OFA and Radio Shack remotes are also good candidates. Good Luck.

The Sony RM-VL900 (because it has 3 macro buttons for mass turn on/off).
However, if you only need 5 devices instead of the above remote's 8, I'd recommend the smaller (cheaper) Sony RM-VL700.
I have both - the 900 in the living room and the 700 in the bedroom (which controls most of the living room stuff via a Xantech IR repeater). My wife really likes them as they are well-organized. Every button is programmable.
