I have several audio and video devices that are missing remotes. Thus, I need to buy a quality universal remote that can learn from the device, NOT from the remote. Can someone recommend a device such as this?

You can't "learn from the device". You need a remote with Preprogrammed codes for your devices. Radio Shack & one-for-all remotes are a good place to start.
