I've got a remote quandry that I'm hoping someone here can help me with.
I have a dual DirectTV receiver setup. Both signals as well as the signal for my VCR and DVD are pumped through a Channel Plus box so that every tv in the house can receive the programming. The lower channels are filled with basic cable.
The receivers are controlled by Sony's UHF/RF remote system and all works very well.
I would like to add TIVO to at least one of the receivers but it appears that none of the TIVO units, or the combination TV/DirecTV units have UHF/RF as a remote option. So, if I put the TIVO into my media closet there is no way to control it from most of the house.
1. Is there any TIVO or similar unit out there that has a UHF/RF remote?
if not...
2. Is there a universal UHF remote system out there that will work with TIVO and the Sony DirecTV receivers? Even a decent system that converts UHF/RF over to IR would be fine. I have a Crestron system for my home theater, but I'd rather something a lot less costly for the remote tvs
Thanks in advance for your help!
Ken

To the best of my knowledge, no TiVo has any RF capability. Only IR.

If you want to control it from another room, you can use simple pyramid IR repeaters (a receiving pyramid converts to radio, transmitted to receiving pyramid that is converted to IR and beamed at the device).

I have wired in the Xantech setup - IR receiver in one room, wired through the attic, to a repeater behind the stereo with a little stick-on IR "mouse" over each device's IR window. I can control the TiVo from the other room this way :)

The One For All URC-9910 remote will do what you want, as will the (yet to be released) new Radio Shack remoe 15-2117.

Thanks for the responses.
Rob, I ordered one of the 9910s to test with. If it works I'll either be buying a Tivo or Tivo competitor in the coming weeks.

Rob,

Tell me why? I was thinking of a combo DirecTv/Tivo receiver to replace one of my existing Sony receivers. Tell me why Replay is better.

If you gonna go with DirecTV, you probably should get the DirecTiVo unit as it will record the digital signal direct from the satellite.

PVR users tend to be loyal to teh first brand that they bought, and as I'm a Replay user, that's the one I prefer. The main difference for me is the fact that I can skip akead by any number of minutes, which means I can zap past commericals, TiVo doesn't let you do this. and the new Replay units also have commercial advance, which makes it even simpler.
