Hi, i need a remote that will let me operate my tv on/off, cable box on/off, and receiver on/off and volume(my tv is hooked up to a receiver). The trick is i need the remote to change only the receiver's volume no matter if i've selected to control the tv, cable box, etc. on the remote. None of the older universal remotes i have do this.

Do any of these sub $30 learning or universal remotes do that?? I don't need anything fancy and i don't have a ton of money to spend on a remote.

The only feature i really need is to be able to change channels on my cable box and adjust my reciever's volume without extra key pressing.

Thanks in advance.

Of All remote units available at the best buy page, I would say this Philips Magnavox Universal Learning Remote Model: PM625S is a very interesting one, specially at a price of 19,99.

It can learn the functions of up to 6 devices.

The only IF is that some cable decoders use an 56KHz carrier on its remote controllers that some of this cheap learning units cannot duplicate.

I´m having the same problem to find a cheap remote to a friend. Another option to you is to buy a good one, like Philips Pronto used at Ebay. That´s what I´m thinking on doing.

Your best bet is to get the One For All URC-8811, which should be in Circuit City stores by now for $30, that will do all that you require.

I wound up buying the sony rm-vl700. It did the volume task i needed, also i read this article

the undocumented macro function work great for me, i have 4 components turning on at the push of one button now(took me 5 tries to get it right though). It's a great remote for $35.
