I have a fan that came with a remote control. Has anyone 'learned' the remote control functions of this fan to a learning remote? If so, can you tell me which remote? Thanks.

cap,
If the signals use IR, they should be "learnable". However, if they are RF, like garage door openers, then likely not. You can easily distinguish by if the fan will function with it's remote from a different room with the door closed; ie the bathroom if the fan is in the living room. If it does, then it'd be rf, and you'd be "SOL". Jim

The fan does not respond from the next room even if a little too far in the same room. So I need to know what remote to try with it. My 8-1 X10 cannot learn it's codes no matter what device I try to add them under. Thanks

cap,
Just eliminating possibles:
I assume your X-10 remote is a "learner". Have you successfully learned and been able to use the learned signals from any other remote? i.e. oem tv, sat, receiver, whatever? Just trying to eliminate that you're making some sort of minor procedural error in learning/using learned signals. Jim

I have had no problem teaching the remote any commands except with the fan.

cap,
That eliminates that possibility. If there's a Radio Shack close to you, maybe you can go in with your fan'sremote. Tell the clerk you're interested in the 15-2104 and woould like to see one. Ask about it's learning feature, etc. ask if it'll learn the signals from fans, oem tv remotes, etc. Then see if he'll back up his BS by learning from your fan remote. If he wants to make a sale, he may go for it. Go thru the procedure, and see if the remote reports it has successfully learned the signals (led will blink twice). They give a 30 return policy, so if it doesn't work the fan, just take it back for a refund. Since the 2104 is a ueic remote, you still aren't "stuck" with it. If you like a different ueic remote better, say a 8811, 8910, or whatever, return the 2104, get the one you like (If one ueic remote will learn it, they all will :) ). (Of course it would have to be a ueic learning model). Jim
