I'm looking for info on their model UR47A. It won't work with my General Instruments cable box and was wondering if the code could be added.

I think IBM makes their remotes, but I doubt that it's upgradeable. Get any One For All or Radio Shack remote and use CBL/0476. Rob http://www.hifi-remote.com

I need a Rf remote for x-10.
A little background; I use this remote in the bedroom to control my TV & VCR. I also use it with a transciver to control the lights and fan. About 3 weeks ago my cable provider "improved their service", meaning that now I need a cable box to pick up premium channels that were not encoded before.
Instead of renting another cable box for channeles I only watch infrequently I instead installed a Wavecon SR. a 2.4 GHz transmitter/ receiver set with a IR remote control option. It sends the IR signal from the detector on the receiver back to the transmitter to an IR blaster to control my cable box. (note that the terms "transmitter" & "receiver" refer to the 2.4 GHZ A/V signal, the IR return is sent via a FM signal).
I placed the transmitter on an appliance module, and the recievers' output is feed into a smart RF modulator. When I switch off the transmitter, via X10 the modulator will feed the normal cable signal to the TV & VCR. When the modulator detects the output of the transmitter (by turning on the appliance module) the Premium channel is fed thru.
So now the problem, up until now I could get the programs I wanted directly from the TV or VCR. I did not need to control the cable box remotely (in the bedroom). I could just buy another remote and a IR543 for the bedroom but I like the layout of the UR47A. (Although I wish it had lighted buttons.)

To control X10 devices with a normal infrared remote, you need to buy an IR543 box, this will convert the IR signals from your remote into X10 signals, you won't need your current "RF to X10" converter box anymore. If you get an OFA or RS remote, you should use CD/0176 to control the IR543. You can get the IR543 from http://www.homeautomationnet.com for under $20. Rob, Read the whole message, I know that reading is a lost art, but if you would have read the whole message you would see that I don't want to use that option.
P.S. I have 2 dozen remotes in my reject pile. I use a MX 500 and the UR47A because I like them. The UR47A allows me to control the lights in the bedroom without having to aim the remote (RF). The X-10 controls are easy to find.
What I guess I'll have to do is use a "dummy" code on the remote and aim the IR blaster (read my previous message) at the IR input on my Ocelot (controlling my Home Theater) and have the Ocelot send the correct codes to the cable box. This seems like overkill but damnit I like the layout of the UR47A.

I would also be interested to know if codes can be added to this remote. I bought one about a year ago and have been struggling ever since to get my satellite's (Bell ExpressVu) page-up and page-down keys mapped. I tried using the EchoStar code (compatible with ExpressVu), but it leaves out the paging. When I try to learn it, I lose the function of the keys I try to map it to. I'm at the point where I'm ready to unload the remote in favor of a new one that has X10 IR functions and buy an IR543 to go with it.

If it works like the RS 15-1924, you can teach to a shifted key. That way you won't lose the original function. In the beginning were you able to teach to three devices, but then only two?

The UR47A is NOT a learning remote. I pulled out an old RCA 3in1 ( $3.00 on sale) that does have codes for my TV, VCR, and cable box. I'll use that with my Mini Timer (that the UR47A was supposed to replace).
Thanks for trying guys, but it looks like my orginal setup was the best. Goes to show you, always go with your first instinct.
BTW, anyone want to buy a UR47A?
