Can someone tell me what cheap Universal Remote
will work with the Barco 800 Graphics Projector
either by it's "Learning" mode or by
programming it with a computer using the
JP1 interface?

I only plan to use it with the Barco so I don't
need a high end remote like the Pronto.

thanks,

Ken

Gee, a lot of barco owners popping up lately. There was a post at JP-1 that said that the barco uses TV_0410, and that code is native in the 8811. Possible it may be in many of the other newer RS/OFA's as well.

Can you tell me what that means
TV_0410 ? Is that a code you simply enter
under the TV button and then it will work
for the Barco 800 ??

thanks,
Ken

Ken,

If you have a learner you can learn the signals from your barco remote. If you have a JP-1 remote, you can go to the JP-1 group and get a device upgrade code you can paste into IR and upload into a 1994. Jon did the device upgrade. He'll have it for other remotes soon. The TV_0410 is UEIC's upgrade code for the barco. I presume you can get a modem upgrade for this for an 8910 or 9910. Without JP-1 or modem upgrade capability you'd have to send your upgradeable UEIC remote in to UEIC to get the upgrade. With JP-1, whether you call it 0410 or 2004 is a moot point. I don't think (I could be wrong with some of these new models) it's a native device code in any remote. If you have JP-1, your quickest way would obviously be to get it from the JP-1 group.

James,

I do not have the original Barco 800
remote. I might be able to get access
to one.
I have a SL-9000 but have been told
it will not learn the Barco 800 commands
via the "Learning mode"
I thought if it had a JP1 it might learn
them that way.

I have not had any luck so far getting
the info from the JP1 group. It sounds
like they might be close but have not
read anything confirming (other than with a 15-1994)
remote it will work. Since the 15-1994 is
not available anymore I need to find a
known to work (cheap)and is available, remote.

I still need to find a step by step procedure
using the IR.EXE software.

Building the JP1 interface looks simple.

thanks,
Ken

Ken,
Building the JP-1 cable is a pretty easy task, especially if you follow the directions and use the pix at HovisDirect.com

I don't understand the theme of so many threads and posts lately. I keep reading this "I can see it works in a 1994, I don't know if it will work in a xxxx. If anything works in one UEIC remote, it can work in ANY UEIC remote. At most, there may be some minor code change to reflect a dirrent type of remote, and the KM program will do it for you if you upload the KM code for the 1994, then just select the remote you have. The fact that it was written for a 1994 is a very minor concern if you have an 8811, 8910, 2104, etc.
Fact is, Jon already did the conversion for the 8811; that's 2 remote models which don't even require the use of KM to do the conversion; just copy and paste the device upgrade code Jon made directly in IR>devices>add and upload. Of course you should first download from remote so IR will know your current configuration, then add the device upgrade to it, and upload, and a good idea to "save" so you can reupload the whole configuration if something or someone inadvertantly wipes the memory like a 981 factory reset.
I don't know anything about your SL-9000 remote, but even if it was capable of learning and you don't have an original remote, uploaded to a UEIC it should "learn" and yield usable signals.
If you have such concerns about your ability to use JP-1 tools, someone could "walk" you through. Last week I walked a guy through both KM and IR with aol's Instant Messenger, and will be doing the same with yet another guy via Yahoo Messenger.
You've got a good selection of JP-1 remotes that you should be able to choose from. From the current releases, the 8811 has received very high marks, and is reasonable in price. It is a learner, so that's a BIG plus. Lots of options are also available, including a powerful extender. For a person in your situation, I would highly recommend an 8811.
