My problem. My satelite receiver can control my vcr via a built in ird. I want it to control a tv capture card (comes with a remote) Making a Personal video recorder. There is no support for such a device in the satellite world unless you buy a full blown PVR receiver.

What I want is a device that can take the start/stop command being sent out from the receiver to a vcr, manipliate the code and start and stop a capture card. I appologise if I am in the wrong forum, any help would be appreciated.

You can buy utv's for $50 at CC or BB, it doesn't seem that its worth the trouble. Vcr's that are controlled by outside device run the risks of accidents happening, like someone hitting the stop button. If you don't want a pvr, check out Jvc vcr's with REC-LINK. With this feature, you set the timer in the sat receiver, turn the sat off, put a tape in the vcr, press rec-link, the vcr goes off. Now when the sat turns itself on and changes its own channel, the vcr comes on and starts to record, the way it works is when a signal hits the back of the vcr, it comes on. when the signal stops, the vcr goes off.

If you are referring to the uTV-2000, I don't think that is what I am looking for. The dishnetwork 301 comes with a nefty vcr recording feature that can be programmed via the receiver program guide. It can record many shows automaticaly to the VCR, starting at the beginning of a show and stopping at its end. I want to make this feature work on my pc with a capture card. I want the capture card to start and stop just like the vcr does. It is just a matter
of intercepting the ird signal being sent from the receiver to the vcr to start/stop, having a
device that can manipulate the receiver VCR codes to say an ATI or Hauppauge remote code, and stop/start the capture card. You will be able to use a
regular TV capture card (that has a remote) and your computer. I believe I will only need to program 2 buttons for start and stop and the receiver ird will
take it from there. Has anybody ever experimented with such a configeration? Or know of a device that can intercept an ird code and manipulate it to control somthing else?
