Hey all. Ive been reading for a long time and maybe too much. Figured I would ask myself now. I have a newer SONY wega tv with a rm-y180 remote, but dont think I can program it for my APEX DVD ad600a. Ive read http://www.hifi-remote and the article on programming for this DVD(ad600a), but I dont know which remote to buy or if they are still making the ones mentioned in the article.
SO, as like everyone else that dont have a clue, Im asking for recs on what to buy. also have a GE vcr but I really shouldnt have trouble programming that. ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED. much appreciated, and MY LORD dont mention a JP1, Im going crazy enuf with just trying to find an easy remote. LOL, oh yea under $50 if possible. thanks guys. ciao

Try not to be scared of the jp1 cables for sale. They're really quite docile. :)
Here's another spot: www.bluedo.com You'll have to find the OFA page yourself.

Just FYI, the hacks mentioned on my sie for the AD600A are only needed on the older remotes that don't have the Apex code, most newer Radio Shack and One For All remotes have teh DVD/0672 code that you need.

Oh and Jax, one last thing....

JP1

For other people reading threads like this, don't get scared away from JP1, for most people it's really easy and it actually means that you spend LESS effort programming your remote than you do now.

For example, let's say that you have a 10 step macro programmed and you would like to add another step to it, without JP1 you would have to delete the whole macro and program it again from scratch, and in the process you will get some memory fragmentation that will limit just how many macros and key moves that you can program. However, with JP1, you could simply hook the remote up to your PC and add the new step, without first deleting the macro and without any memory fragmentation.

Now, let's say that you have an Apex AD600A DVD player and your remote is a Cinema 7, well, without JP1 you will have to program about 30 or more key moves to get it working (remember, a key move means pressing and holding the SETUP button, typing 994, then pressing the SETUP button again, then typing in the 3 figit advanced code, then selecting the button that it will go on. Now, without JP1 you will have to do that 30 or more times. Trust me, before JP1 I did just that to program my AD600A and it's ALOT of effort, but if you have JP1, all you need to do is download the AD600A file fromthe JP1 file section and load it into your remote. Plus, you can customize the button layout before you load it if you wish.
