I have a Panasonic CT35g25 35" tv, RCA DVD and VCR, and the Motorola DCT2000 digital reciever. Does anyone have the code to program the TV's remote for the reciever? OR the code to program the DVD player on the reciever's remote? If not, can anyone recommend an inexpensive universal remote that will control the above mentioned items?

Thanks

Ghost

Ghost,
You dodn't mention what remotes came with your devices. Most device remotes will only work the device they came with, sometimes another like unit from the same mfr. Since we can't even see them (your mystery remotes), you have a better chance to answer your own questions. For instance, does your tv's remote have provisions for other devices? Does it have a device button labelled "vcr" or "dvd" or "audio"? If not, it will onlycontrol your tv. I suspect the receiver remote is the same way. Off-hand, the best chance mite be the rca remote, since SOMETIMES rca packages a "universal" remote with SOME of their devices. Without seeing the remotes you have, or at least a decent description of them we can't have a clue what you can do with them.

Get a decent RS or One-For-all "universal remote", especially a learning model. i.e. a 15-2104 from Radio Shack, or a OFA 8811. We don't know what you define as "inexpensive", but these can be had for 30 or less. Some Wal-marts carry the UEIC (OFA's) 6010w, and 8010w. Neither are learners but 25 or so and have a better chance of controlling your devices, and most functions, if not all.
Jim.

check out the "clicker picker" here at RC. read the reviews. check out some of the forums.

Thanks jamesgammel.

Sorry about that. I don't know the brands off the top of my head. They all have provisions for the other devices. I will look tonight and see if the remotes have a brand label on them

Ghost: if you are looking for a cheap universal remote then I agree with jamesgammel that Radioshack or One for all is the way to go. You might also want to read Robman's site (he is an expert on those remotes) [Link: hifi-remote.com]

Also if you can do a small favor, rename your thread, titles like need a code, looking for code, or help me find code, just tend to turn into (what we call) brain dead threads (i.e. a bunch of posts like Randy's)

Randy: If you want some serious help, start your own thread with a good title (what remote do you have and what device do you want to control), that way people who might be able/willing to help will know what you need before opening the thread and will know this is a thread for them. Then in the text add more information (all that will be needed to help you).

Randy posts his requests in any and all threads, he likes to bury them. Doesn't make sense to him to open his own thread. he has managed to find the "quote button", but can't find a "post" button. But then, he can't see the "new thread" button on almost every page.

jamesgammel: I noticed, but thought here I would get two birds with one stone - show to Ghost why he should retitle his post, while (maybe) telling randy how to get good attention

Anthony,

You know, If a person would think a little bit, he should put himself in the reader's shoes, and the title should tell the reader: "Hey, I got just the info this poster needs". Instead of making him waste time going into the thread reading it, and finding out that the poster hasn't given either enough or the right information. I think most peope think that all remotes use the same codes, and that's just far from the truth. thery may mimic signals, but how the particular remote mfr. defines that into his codes, and how he maps them to keys on a remote isn't a constant. rca could use a tv code of 000, whereas ofa may have the same tv working with 0250, and zenith another, and sony another, etc. etc. etc. The value of a good learning remote just can't be stressed enough. One that can be pc programmed and customized at a decent, reasonable cost is almost worth it's weight in gold when you can toss aside 8 remotes sitting on a coffee table in exchange for one that will handle every device you have, and you can set it up almost any way that feels handiest to you, the wife, the kids, etc. A good remote is like a trusted tool in a guy's toolbox. Yeah, he can kludge his way around with a crescent wrench, but he'll soon realize the value of a socket set or box wrench set when he doesn't strip bolt heads, or skin his knuckles and lose a quart of blood. oops, sorry about the soapbox routine.
Odd, randy posted in almost every BDT at RC, and then disappeared. Never did see a new thread from him. Maybe he'll come back in 6 months and see if he got any answers? Personally I think he just wanted to see how many threads he could post his tag-a-long question in. He did manage to find the quote button, and used it so he didn't have to type so much. Ingenuous, but also BD and not exactly one to exert more effort than absolutely required.
His post in this thread couldn't tell us which model sharp tv he had, I guess maybe he thinks Sharp only ever made one model. Couldn't tell us which remote he had, I guess they all use the same codes. "Needs a remote code". Hmmmmmm, device setup code that maps out all the buttons and functions, or just one discrete or toggle code? I guess we're all supposed to be psychic, or perhaps there is only one tv for the whole world, and just one remote so we all need the same code(s). If that were the case, why do we even need this site and forums?

Jim,
I think you are taking these BDTs way too seriously, you really need to chill out some and not let it get to you. So there are idiots in the world, like this is news to anyone. By all means have some fun with them if you like, especially in the official BDT threads (notice the redundant extra use of thread there), but don't let them get you all worked up so.

James: did you notice he divided the information among all his posts? I think Randy thinks we like puzzles and have nothing better to do then try and piece the information.

Never did see a new thread from him

why do you think we call those threads BDT and don't try and help the people who post to them. Rob probably remembers when that was not the case. But when you would ask them "what TV do you have?" or any other important info that was missing, we would never get a response. Then we tried messages to let them know it is dumb to post in those threads (but that did not help), so now if a BDT posts we just make fun of them except if they return. But like Rob said, not worth taking too serious

yeah, your solution kinda looks like a pineapple. You set it next to your tv and remote, then pull a pin. You'll have about 4 seconds to leave the room. and your problems will be solved automatically.
