I have an RCA Universal Remote (CRK76SG3)that came with my RCA Direct tv satellite. About a month ago it started acting wierd. It would work for 5 mins., then quit. An hour later it would start working again. This goes on with no rhyme or reason It seems to come and go as it pleases. We tried putting new batteries in, but this didn't help. We even clean the TV and the satellite to help receive the signal better, didn't help. With growing frustration, we even purchased a new RCA universal remote, and the new one acted the same way. I called a 800 number and they were puzzled too. Could not help me at all! I hope someone out there can help me with this! Gonna go crazy here! Thanks

can it be a lighting issue? Some times lights hitting an IR receiver can blind it to the remotes commands

Do you have ir blaster or repeater, say coming from the vcr to control the sat? Try unplugging the tv and sat for five minutes.

don't know, just trying to come up with ideas. IR sensors can be blinded by sunlight or lights. In one of our conference rooms, a projector was being blinded by the lights, you had to close the lights every time you wanted to turn the projector on or change input (we ended up take away some of the light bulbs). Also this is an infrared receiver, so it does not necessarily need visible light

has there been any changes that happened 5 months ago? New equipment (some Plasma screens are known to create some IR pollution), change in room layout?

we are going to try and change the room around next, and also the placement of the sat. receiver itself to see if this helps at all! thanks for your input! keep the suggestions coming!

just out of curiosity, does your dss receiver have RF capabilty? if so, your recevier may be expecting an RF signal instead of the IR signal that you are supplying to it. there should be a remote type/channel selection area in the setup menu of your receiver. unfortunately i dont know the model # of your receiver as to know if it has RF or not. i'm getting too old to remember which dss receivers do or don't. and if that doesnt work, then perhaps the receiver has a bad IR receiver. not common, but possible. hope ya get it workin...

Lager, I had a similar problem with my rca sat. receiver remote, it even forgot what the TV code was. Turned out to be a battery problem. make sure you don't have one of them turned the wrong direction, and all are good.

This site has a section with pdf and other forms of original manuals and codes. The general process is usually the same to do those operations if you don't see your exact model, especially with rca universal remotes. You may want to print the one for your's. Jim Cute how you buried this in a thread that's been dead for over three months. Next time, you might have better luck by posting a brand new one in this forum. Jim
