Best Buy is now advertising the new Philips PROmote PRO6 for $69.99. It programs from the Internet by holding it up to your monitor. It appears to be branded by Philips, but made by Gemini. Does anybody have any information on this one? I'm particularly interested in programming it for my Philips Tivo and Sony Tivo.
Thanks!

I don't have any info on this remote, but regarding your TiVos, the new One For All URC-8011 and URC-8811 remotes both have the TiVo codes in them (VCR/0618 for Philips, and VCR/0636 for Sony). Rob. http://www.hifi-remote.com

You'll have no problem adding both your Philips and Sony TiVo's since they are already different IR sets. However I don't think you can add multiple stand alone TiVo's made by the same manufacturer. I'm waiting for a reply from [email protected] to this issue. Something to be aware of you can only program this remote using a CRT based PC. I bought one from my local Best Buy and didn't see this qualifier on the box and will most likely return it. My home pc's are laptop and LCD and iMac flat screen [not bragging, just the facts ma'am] ;-) I do have a CRT at my business and will probably give the remote a try though. It uses the modulated radiation emitted by the screen :-)

Another thing to be aware of is it does NOT work with Windows XP or Windows 2000, you must be running Windows 3.x, Win95, Win98 or WinMe. Since the only machine I have a CRT monitor is my business computer I only have XP installed. FWIW, I did try to program the remote to no avail. As much as I'd like to give this remote a chance I'm going to take it back to BB.

You are correct, the Promote presently does not work with an IMAC

you can use an IMAC to program the PROMOTE, we have tested this out already What "flavor" of an iMac? I have a G4 flat panel running OS X. How could you run the "Light Link" program on a mac unless it's thru Virtual PC? Just curious...

The PROmote is a wirelessly web programmable remote control. It is not compatible with MAC's or laptops, due to the communication and/or the brightness of the screen. The PROmote has the ability to program 6 devices- whether it means 6 of the same device. [email protected] is available to answer any questions or call 973-471-9050 and ask for me (Jacki Nacht).

You can load multiple TiVo's, even of the same brand. Series 2 TiVo's can be set to 10 different addresses. 0 runs TiVo's at any address. This allows up to 9 TiVo's of the same brand in one room. We have, or will be adding, drivers for all addresses available for each brand of TiVo. TiVo's do not have volume controls, so they punch-thru to your desired device (probably TV or Home Theater). Play etc. will punch-thru to the last used TiVo. All TiVo functions are supported, and the key layout works pretty good. Let me know what you think.

I have programmed the PROmote under XP and Windows 2000 many times without problems. Download problems are most often caused by video cards which do not correctly render the rather quick animation used in our Light-Link programming process. A dropped frame is a dropped byte of data... Light-Link is an MS-DOS program, and requires PC-BIOS compatibility. Also, some video cards with dual outputs may corrupt the video when both outputs are enabled. Try disabling one of the outputs. The Light-Link is very forgiving of display rates, etc., and even works on interlaced TV displays. If all else fails, we can set a switch on the Light-Link which slows down the animation. This will allow virtually any video card to download correctly.

Does anyone know who else is selling this? I saw a review and the asking price for this remote was between $35 and $70 so it is nice to see that Best Buy is asking full price. I just don't think it is worth $70.

Martin,
Am I to understand that there's a good chance I can use the PROmote with XP Pro? FWIW, I am able to use the Timex DataLink Wizard for Outlook XP on my XP Pro machine and successfully program my DataLink watch. May I assume these technologies are quite similar?
Also, can you elaborate a bit on the punch-through capabilities? Does your remote allow key moving or adding "advanced functions"? Does it support discrete on and off codes?
I have been to your web site, but it really doesn't get into the "meat" of your product.
Thank you.
