Does anyone have any info on this new learning remote. I am interested if it has a macro capability that can be used with the device keys. I can't find anything about this remote except from Best Buy's web site. Here is a picture and a brief description: [Link: bestbuy.com]

Thanks.

By it's description it looks like a pretty cool remote control for 30 bux.

The only reason I'm looking is that my Dish PVR-501 remote has trouble with the volume on my Sony Surround Rx for some reason. If I could the volume to work, the Dish remote would be fine otherwise.

I picked it up at Best Buy in Florida a couple of weeks ago.

I am having little luck teaching it either my Panasonic DVD player or my Onkyo 989. It keeps giving me error messages. It learns some commands, not rejects many others from the same device.

The manual says "The L1, L2, L3, L4, or other functions keys may be used in this programming mode", under the heading "Learning Function".

I discovered from RCA Thompson that the unit can be completely cleared by removing the batteries, and holding down any button for 60 seconds. I don't see how how a brand-new unit could be screwed up right out of the bubble-packm, but who knows.

I also discovered through another thread on this Forum a link to the RCA website Remote Control "help" wizard, which actually shows a variation of this remote (800 with no MSL after it), and three different codes for Onkyo that are not in the manual. The manual codes are 145, 151, 152. The website codes are 186, 234, 235. That's a counting difference of 41 and 83; I wondr if it is similar to the OFA code library that repeats itself? Should check with Rob on this... ... Mike

... I did the "reset" thing, and it didn't help at all with my programming issues. Stay tuned... ... Mike
