I am searching for an inexpensive universal remote that has an eject button. My kids destroyed the buttons on their TV/VCR and we cannot remove the tape that is in there. Any ideas out there???? THANKS!!

Was there an eject button on the original remote? If so you can probably get the function into a OneForAll universal remote. They have a feature called KeyMover that basically allows you to output any code from the remote if it already has support for the protocol and device codes of the device. So maybe you already have a OneForAll universal remote around the house that could work. This could include your cable remote as well, or certain models of RCA and Philips/Magnavox remotes, as some of these are made by the same company that owns OneForAll.
Did you unplug, then plug in the TV? If you just want to get the tape out, this may work.

Thanks for your reply. No, the original remote does not have an eject button and unplugging the TV does not work either. Do you know of any remote that will do this function??

Even if the original remote lacked an EJECT button, it's still possible that the EJECT function was programmed into the unit itself, in which case you would be able to re-create the EJECT button using a One For All or Radio Shack remote. My Panasonic VCR's remote doesn't have an EJECT button, but I have programmed an EJECT button using my Radio Shack 15-1994. Rob. http://www.hifi-remote.com

Sue...
I recommend new kids. Then get a new VCR. IF you keep the same kids, perhaps consider modifying the eject button of the new VCR to emit a painful shock if pressed to harshly. Also consider taking the cost of a new VCR (and perhaps a replacement of the stuck tape) out of your kids' allowance (if any) or future incomes.
Then again, it seems like a perfect reward for VCR abuse to have the kids able to watch only that same old tape, OVER and OVER and OVER again.

What brand is it? I've found many VCRs to support eject -- JVC, Sony, Hitachi -- even if they don't have the function on their original remote, as Rob says.

A little late to the discussion, but ...
My "original" Mitsubishi VCR did not have EJECT on the remote, however a DISCRETE CODE exists for EJECT, and when I programmed it onto my OneFourAll Cinema 7 Learning remote, (I put it on an Up Arrow key), it works just as designed.
I took one more step and programmed EJECT into a macro to STOP the VCR, EJECT the tape, turn the POWER OFF and return to TV functions. Kinda cool to watch it all unfold in front of my eyes!
Now if someone could write a macro to get the kids to put the tape back in its box and place it back in the drawer!

JD, What's the code? I have Mitsubishi VCRs, I would love to have Eject available.

see this webpage: [Link: starbase314.com]Eject is "406" for VCR device using code 0043 In my macro I used a couple of 2 sec delays (nicely available on the UCommand!) to allow for cassett transport and exit. Let us know if it works for you. JD

Have you tried pressing "PLAY" ?
Some VCR's will play the tape, rewind it and eject it - all by itself. . . . (it's worth trying)

Another thought - if it's a commercial tape (or home-brewed with the tab removed), initiating the record sequence will cause it to eject. This won't work for tapes with the tab in place.
