I have Mitsubishi widescreen that came with RF/IR remote. RF base station located close to satellite receiver and translates RF to IR. RF described as "whole house capable". Experience says not so. Good for one (sometimes two) room separation. I have three satellite receivers (all Mitsubishi) and all have the same limited range problem.

Specs for new Pronto TSU6000 not out, but I wonder if any RF remote that has a charger is more powerful than a non chargeable battery remote (small 12v battery in Mitsubishi) and therefore really be "whole house". I had visions of placing all receivers in a central location and then controlling them from anywhere in the home. That did not work out. One central location means, among other advantages, that only one cable need be routed to the various TV's and could then receive both satellite and off-the-air broadcasts. Running a second line, now the home is built, is tough. Absent raw power, is there a RF repeater available that could forward signals to base stations?

Power is not your problem it is the range of the RF receiver.

Things to do:

Receiver as high as possible
receiver wiring away from any other wires if possible.
create your own ant-If the ant is coax based like an f-connector(the kind of jacks that are the screw on type)
strip down coax cable to its center conductor and create a YAGI ant(TV Ant shaped). See picture below. With this design we have been able to give clients control of sat receiver any where in the house in a 8,000 sq. ft home.

Peter - Many thanks. You reminded me that there are other things besides power that increase the signal to the receiver electronics - one of which is the antenna. The existing receiver antenna is a miniature telescoping rod about 8" long when extended (made by Mitsubish and comes with their receiver). I used the core of RG-6 cable, wrapped the center around the rod antenna, and extended the RG-6 core about 18" on either side of the rod antenna. Results in tremendous improvement. I have not tested the whole house yet, but I no longer have to walk closer to the receiver from where I actually use the remote for this particular receiver. Next step will be to check the other receivers from more distant locations. I really appreciate the help and the solution works! Myron
