I'd put it in the user review section, in the format Daniel has....... pros, cons, and the review. People can scroll can't they?

I don't see any specified limits to length in the user reviews. And isn't that what the user reviews are for? If all we have is a huge collection of "I like this remote", of what use is that. Not that that is what we have, but a good in-depth review can't do anything but help.

deadhead: it would seem that a number of receiver brands with DSP chips can be difficult to learn on the majority of URCs. I have long been looking for the answer to the same problem with a Sony receiver... because the original remote emits information that goes to two chips in the receiver, it is not readily accepted by most learning remotes. The first signal alerts the receiver; the second signal (or portion of the first signal) selects modes from the DSP chip itself. Even the boys at Sony design have not been able totellus yet how to overcome this oddity.

The more expensive remotes, like the Pronto, overcome this problem with their intricate programming schemes. Also, the Sony 900 and 2100 URCs can learn these commands, although in a weird sort of way. Meantime, I keep my original remote handy if I need to change modes for a DVD soundtrack or something. ... Thanks for the reply. Interesting side note... When I "taught" the UC515 VOL+ and VOL- using the original Yamaha remote, it learned the command as a single bump in volume, no matter how long you held the button down. I would have to make successive button taps to raise or lower the volume. I then taught the 515 using my RC-1994, which had simply been programmed using the four-digit device code for the receiver and the 515 worked as I wanted. The 1994 is becoming more and more loved but will probably lose its home in a few days. Unfortunately the 1994 won't learn the DSP button either, and I can't locate the advanced code for it. But I'd bet the 1994 wouldn't be able to do it. When you hold down a button on the 1994 so it is putting out a continuous signal, like volume up or down, if you push another button the first command is aborted. Luckily, I hardly ever use DSP. That Yamaha remote must be pretty high tech. Too bad it was designed by Rube Goldberg.

There have been some comments about difficulties with the 515 and Philips Magnavox televisions.

In the words of CheLives:
"I spent time trying to teach it the channel commands for my Phillips Magnavox TP2784C, using the "long" burst method. This also did not allow it to reach any channel that has the same, multiple digits (ie 11, 22, 33 ,44 etc). Also, the recall button, mute button, and other buttons do not work."

I am thinking about purchasing this remote, but I have a Philips Magnavox TS3260C1, and I don't want to run into the same kinds of problems as CheLives. Is this a remote-specific, or signal-specific problem? In other words, is this problem a result of the original manufacturer remote, or of the actual signal passed by the remote? Do you think I will have the same difficulties? Has anyone else with a PM TV had similar problems? Thanks for the help

Rick: check with Uli at CrispSolutions; he may have heard or had experience with those sets.

If not, try to find out from Phillips/Magnavox what Hz. range their TVs and remotes use; they may be out of range of many universal remotes capabilities. Or, like older RCA sets, using completely different command types in their IR structure. ... Mike

I need a code for my Quasar projection tv

I just purchased a Ucommand 616. I am very pleased with the overall product. I have everything programmed and working properly (cable, VCR, DVD, TV & most of my receiver) My problem is the power on and off on my hardon kardon 510 receiver. When I program the remote it shows that it learned it okay, buy doesn't shut off or turn on the receiver. Does anyone know if this is a common problem with H/K receivers?

Chris: try reprogramming the H/K "POWER" button, but hold the H/K button down LONGER than you originally did.

It's also possible the H/K's IR sensor has a real "narrow" field of view, meaning you need a more "direct line of sigt" pointing with the 616.

Finally, contact the folks at Crisp Solutions DIRECTLY (http://www.crispsolutions.com) using their web site's E-mail facility - it's possible they have a solution.
