Just got a TSU7500 today. It sounds as though something is loose inside. A slight rattling noise is heard when you move the device around. Is this normal. It seems to work otherwise. Is this normal? Is it just the pickup sensor?

I might be the pickup sensor - they use a small ball bearing (I don't think mercury swtiches are allowed now).

Does everyone hear it or is mine abnormal?

Yeah that is the pick up sensor.. totally normal.

Mercury is disallowed so the ball bearing must be used. Your unit is just fine.

My newly purchased TSU7500 exhibits the same rattling. I just noticed this today in fact. I can even feel the rattling at times. Picking the remote up at arms length with my AC running and my alarm clock going off in the background I can still hear the rattling. That's how loud it is. This is very annoying to say the least. I plan to call Philips and have the unit checked out. This sound is obviously coming from the ball bearing inside the unit, but it is way too loud and sounds and feels more like there is a little broken peice of plastic inside the unit rolling around everywhere. Over the past two years I've never even noticed this sound coming from my TSU7000. Not even once. My TSU7000 does make a noise from the ball bearing inside after checking it out just now, but the ball bearings movement inside my TSU7000 is clearly more constricted than it is in this TSU7500 making the sound very quiet in comparison to the noise the TSU7500 makes. I can't imagine that the ball bearing in this TSU7500 is supposed to create this much noise. If this is normal every TSU7500 user would be posting here at the forums complaining and calling Philips asking for their remote to be serviced. I'd be interested to hear from other TSU7500 owners on this. While I can deal with the fact some noise is going to be created by the ball bearing the noise coming from my newly purchased TSU7500 is simply far louder than the same noise coming from any TSU3000 or TSU7000 that I've used, enough so that I'd take the remote apart and remove the ball bearing if this is an option. I don't use the tilt sensor anyway. I never have. I prefer to hit the fixed page down button on the left side of the remote to activate the screen.

Did you purchased your new remote from a store? If you did, you can do a sound comparison test with another TSU7500. If you have a "rattler", you can ask for a exchange. I would only contact Philips as a last resort.

From what others have said the 7500 is louder than the 7000.

Mine's fairly loud as well. I believe most of the 7500s I've programmed have been loud. They are also extremely sensitive. The tilt sensor seems to activate if you look at it, or at least bump it.

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. It is much appreciated. It's nice to know that I'm not going crazy. I have a strong feeling that the ball bearing in the TSU7500 simply has more room to move around than it does in the TSU7000. That's the only thing in my mind that would account for it literally making 3 times the noise that my TSU7000 does in this regard. It would also explain why you hardly have to even touch the TSU7500 for the tilt sensor to activate the screen. When listening to the ball bearing in my TSU7000 it sounds like it is moving back and forth in a small channel. It's really a very subtle sound. I have to be listening for it on purpose to hear it. When listening to the TSU7500's ball bearing it sounds more like one of those small clear plastic maze toys. You know, the ones that have the ball bearing inside where you have to tilt the thing in different directions to guide the ball through the maze. That's what my TSU7500 sounds like when this ball bearing moves around inside the remote. Not a very satisfying feeling I must say. At this point I'd really like to find out if in fact the ball bearing can be taken out once taking the remote apart. Does anyone know if this is possible? I will never use the tilt sensor, and am not concerned about reducing its resale value by doing this. I'd just like the thing to stop rattling around. It makes the remote feel cheap to me and just irritates me to no end after spending all this money on a new remote when all I really wanted was my TSU7000 with a higher memory capacity.

I always tilt my 7000 to activate it. I don't like having to touch the screen to do it.

I use the fixed page down button on the left side of the remote to activate the screen as only the screen is activated on the first button press. I don't like having to touch the screen to activate the remote either. That's why I use the fixed page down button.

I did like tilting mine until I got the 7500 which, as stated, is much more sensitive. It forced me to turn off tilt activation.

I'm sorry to hear this. :-) Don't neuter the poor little remote. :-o There's got to be alternative solution than removing it's one ball?! ;-)

I'm afraid its one ball has to go! It's getting on my ever-loving last nerve. Fortunately for this particular TSU7500 it's going to be able to keep its one ball. The mute button on this thing is defective. It works, but doesn't want to push down properly. When operating this button it feels very rough and makes this very loud plastic on plastic clicking sound when I push it in. Hopefully my next TSU7500 will not have any defective buttons and the ball bearing inside will not rattle around violently with the slightest movement of the remote. :-P
