Hi,

I'd like to use my modern (non serial) laptop to connect to my Marantz RC9500. I'm guessing a serial to USB adapter might do the trick, but before I buy one, is there any particular type I should look for?

Thanks

RC9500 is MiniUSB to USB. No RS232 adapter required. You do, however, need the device driver installed which comes with the Wizz-It software.

I must apologise. My remote is an RC9200 - small circular jack into the remote, the computer end of the cable is 9 pin D Serial. Sorry for the confusion.

See the Classic Pronto FAQ. There are some recomendations there. [Link: remotecentral.com]

The key is making sure that your Pronto shows up on the 'first' unused COM port. Meaning that you cannot have a mouse on COM1, an empty COM2, and the Pronto Showing up on COM4 or COM5. Will not work as the software will stop looking when it hits the empty COM2.

To ensure this does not happen, you need a converter that supports configuring the COM port on which the device will appear.
