I've run into a pretty strange problem while programming my remote.

The learned IR codes all work, but with one very odd caveat: you can't give the same IR command back to back.

For instance... changing channels to 121 works fine. Then changing cannels to 016 works fine.... but changing channels to say 022 does not work because the first 2 goes through, but the second two doesn't.

It's not just channel numbers, however. I can only increase or decrease the volume 1 step before the unit doesn't respond to IR codes.

I've tried various delays and whatnot... but to no avail. I was thinking of adding a dummy IR code like say 0000 1111 2222 0000 that will have no effect on the unit but would perhaps allow the unit to work correctly. However, that seems like a very poor workaround (and I'm not even sure if it would work).

Anyone have any suggestions? I don't think relearning the IR commands will work because like I said... they all work... it's just they won't work back to back. Plus, I've relearned some of them and they are the same...

Edit: I tried that dummy code workaround and it didn't work.

Try creating a macro...
If you want to change channels to Channel 099, try:

Send IR Code (0)
Send IR Code (9)
Delay (0.50 sec)
Send IR Code (9)

This problem is because of your XM Radio's IR programming. Many other devices have this problem as well.

Post some of the IR codes. They sound like toggle bit codes that one of the geniuses here may be able to provide a work around with a modified code. Otherwise you can try learning both versions of the code (if your not sure what I mean I would suggest searching for toggle bit codes, there is a lot of information in several threads) and making exact copies of the page with jumps back and forth, not elegant but it works - except for volume.

This didn't work. Also not sure why it would... because when using my regular remote that came with the XM radio, I can change channels to 099 without a problem.

Time is not an issue. I could change to channel 021 listen for an hour and then change to channel 121 and it would not work because the first 1 in 121 doesn't go through because the most recent IR code received by the radio was the 1 in 021, even though it was an hour ago.

I can post the rest of them if needed...

I could change to channel
021 listen for an hour and then change to channel
121...the first 1
in 121 doesn't go through because the most recent
IR code received by the radio was the 1 in 021,
even though it was an hour ago.

That clinches it: these are toggle codes.

That means that each button puts out two different codes, and alternates between them. "1" followed by "1" are two different codes, and it is the same for every button. The IR system in the radio needs to see two different codes on subsequent same buttons, and you have only learned one.

I'm curious as to why this is, as an XM that I installed recently does not use toggle codes. How many brands of XM radio are there?

Anyway, that's why jcl suggested learning both codes and putting them on different pages that flip back and forth. Not elegant, but it works.

Check this by making three buttons on your Pronto, then learning something to them three times. Look at the hex code: the first and third should be the same, the second different. If all three are different, redo it with more care as to how uniformly you hold down the buttons when learning.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
