hey guys... i'm using lowkey's dvd changer from his pcf and am trying to add all my dvd artwork to my system but i'm running into problems. all his artwork seems to be around 5-6k in .png format and very good quality.

however, when i go find the artwork i need on the web, save it (as a jpg) then resize it and save it (as a png) it is 15-18k... and usually doesn't look as good.

anyone know where i can find a big database of 72x100 artwork where when i save as a png, will be around 5-6k?

a database would be great... but here are specific ones i'm looking for:

the girl next door
chappelle's show seasons 1, 2, and lost episodes
et
freaks and geeks
friends season 5
law and order seasons 1, 2, 3, 4 and 14
nypd blue seasons 1, 2, 3 and 4

You are either not using the right resizing software or you don't know how to use it. Any of the graphics packages such as Photoshop (in all its incarnations), Paint Shop Pro, etc. allow you to specify both size and pixel density.

All of the major graphics packages have support forums on the Internet. Find the one for your package and post a request for help. I'll bet within half an hour you'll have your answer.

One thing that might help is to save the initial artwork as a bmp file. The conversion of jpg to png directly can be problematic depending on the software you are using.

In future, when posting a question like yours, specify the software you are using. Without knowing what it is, it's hard to give you specific advice.

I use Photoshop Elements 4, and I guess that they would have similar functions, so I'll tell you how I do it. The "Image Size" window permits you to specify the size you want in PIXELS. In your case, all you need to do is open your graphic and click on Image>Resize>Image Size. In the Window that appears, specify 72 pixels in the Height box and 100 pixels in the Width box. Then save it in bmp or png format as you wish.

Because the number of pixels/inch is a fixed quantity with Pronto (roughly 100 pixels/inch), by specifying the number of pixels, you also specify the physical dimensions of the graphic as it appears on the screen.

The number of bits in your pcf is not the same as the number of bits that get stored in the Pronto memory. I don't know what happens in the translation, but if you really want the details, do some searching around on this forum and/or ask someone like Lyndel. In any event, don't get too worried about the number of pixels. I think the bit count has more to do with the colors you use than the size of the graphic.

I use Photoshop CS 8.0 myself. All of my 72x100 DVD cover images are saved as PNG's using the "Save for Web..." option.

thanks for the info guys.

lowkey... by using those settings i shaved almost a full megabyte off my pcf file, and that was only for replacing about 40 or 45 images!

thanks so much.

I've never used the "Save for Web" option in Photoshop Elements (PE), nor even looked at it. The same control panel Lowpro showed is there in PE. Cool feature. Sigh. So much to learn and so little time . . .
