Dear all, I've just bought a pull up screen to go with my new projector. PRoblem is that all my kit is behind the screen so the IR beam won't go through the screen when it is up. SHould I get an IR extender or can I use the RF features of my RU-950 I'm a bit of a noob really - have set it up using the files on here (brilliant!) but need a little help with this. Many thanks Xav

You can go either way. You can use a regular remote extender and keep the RU-950 in IR mode. Or you use the RF feature. If you use the RF feature, you still need a receiver that converts the RF to IR. That is what Philips RF extender does. However, you don't need to get the Philips extender, which is quite expensive. You can just as well use the receiver from a regular remote extender, such as the X-10 Powermid.

Many thanks Xav I had the same issue, I went with "hot link pro" the kit comes with small stick on eyes that attach to your source units, then a remote IR sensor below the screen. All in one pkg and works great!

As I have just bought an LCD TV my IR extender is now no good so I was looking at the RF option, but my lighting would still need IR.
Does the Pronto have to be set to one or the other or can it transmit some IR and some RF?

Why is it that your IR Extender is no good now that you have bought an LCD TV?
Anyway, you turn on RF on a device by device basis. So leave some devices on IR and the rest on RF.

LCD and Plasma TV's transmit some IR so the light is always on on the Xantec and the signal seems to be effected.

I've never had any problems with plasmas or LCDs. The only things that have affected my RF Extender were cheap halogen light transformers (very strong) and sitting it on top of a sub-woofer.
