I suppose since this site is the top recommended site by Philips in the Communities section of the official Pronto website [Link: pronto.philips.com]
it makes sense that they keep an eye on the discussions. It's one of the best ways for them to get feedback on their products and improve current models and release even better new items based on what the majority of users want.

'TOOLS' KEEPS COMING BACK
When I open a pcf in PENG 1.2, hard button 1 is always programmed for "tools". Under 'System Properties', I delete the label name, and change the 'Special Actions' to (None). That's all fine when I load it into the Pronto. When I close the pcf file, then open it again to change something, "tools" is right back there, and I have to go thru the above procedure all over again. This happens on a Windows 98SE & an XP Home system. I program a lot of Prontos for 'Technologically Challenged Persons', so it is quite annoying.

Apologies for not giving a name check to the person in this forum who told me but...

If you make the label for the left-hand hard button contain a single space, i.e. " " rather than blank, your frustrations will disappear :-)

Dave.

Very long ago we had one PENG designer who identified himself. He's been long gone, and since that time, I personally have seen nothing that indicates that anyone from Philips ever sees a word of what is here.

how do you know he is long gone? he might read and not post, and how do you know there is no one else. They might just read or even post without saying they are from Philips

What do you base this statement on?

history.
1) I have been coming to this site since 99
2) I have seen people from Philips post whenever their help is required
3) If people from Philips have been visiting for as long as I have (and longer) then why would they have stopped recently?
4) a lot of the utilities that exist for the original Pronto exist because of hints left by helpful people at Philips
5) all the major manufacturers of remote seem to monitor and visit their forums.
6) stuff we ask for sometime make their way to the remotes (People wanted PC programmability PE and cable got added to the Pronto, people wanted help with Macros, Philips added beeps for audio clues, Marantz added page jumps, Neo users wanted upload capabilities for learnt codes, it was added.....)

I didn't claim to know that. I only claimed that there was no evidence that he wasn't. It's not the same thing.

history....

No "evidence" in all of that either; at least not in recent times.

HOWEVER, I take Daniel's word as gospel on this. Thanks Daniel.

Now I must strongly agree with those who stated that a 2-way conversation would certainly still some the frustration many of us feel.

I meet a problem with PENG 1.2.4.

After installing PENG 1.2.4., I try to launch the
application. Then, I face the message error "Could not load information from the registry. The application is not installed properly! Please re-install the application". After des-installation/re-installation, the problem still remains.
With PENG 1.1.1. (provided with the RU950), no problem.

I work on Windows 2000, with a personal profile with administrator rights.

I partially reached to install and run PENG 1.2.
I installed it with the administrator profile, and it works. I may open PENG 1.2.

But the problem remains: after installing it with the administrator profile, I can run PENG 1.2 in it, but not with another profile (user or administror renamed one).

I had some E-mail exchange with Philips support, with no help.

PENG seems very hardwired: PENG works only with the windows user account on which it was installed, and this account must be the "administrator" one.

Upload Function Does not Work

Philips claims it is a known issue and they are working on a fix for the nextg release. The uplaod problem persists regardless of OS and firmware version installed on the remote.

If you want to play that game, I did not say it was evidence, just an educated guess. Just because it has been cloudy for a few days or nights, does not mean the sun and moon have disappeared from the sky :-)

Thank you, Dave. I tried that, I also selected the top action window and inserted a delay, but the same thing happens- save & close the pcf, open it again, and 'tools' is right back, and special actions- tools is selected. I'm in advanced mode. I can't think of anything else to try.

Grid is not correct

The math of the grid in ProntoEdit NG is not correct. For example, a 24 column grid should have marks at 5, 15, 25, 35 ... 235 pixels. Instead, it gives 8, 17, 37, 46 ... 229 pixels.

The old grid in ProntoEdit actually worked much better than the new one. While it was a pain to initially set up the grids, they worked very well once configured.

Problems remaining with copy/paste IR codes (view/edit function)

It seems that when the code sequence is too long, then it is modified or even not saved....

I had the problem with 2.0.4 PENG, it's still there (although a bit different) with 2.0.6.

No such problems with ProntoEdit 4 for example...

This pasting problem makes the editor and remote almost useless....
