I bought a TSU7000 about a month ago and right from the start it was unable to communicate properly with ProntoProEdit. Symptoms:
1. PC recognizes the Pronto is connected and installs the USB driver. The driver appears to be working correctly (as far as you can tell from XP's device manager).
2. ProntoProEdit is unable to communicate with the device: - downloading into the Pronto results in error message "device failed. Please retry (0030)". - uploading from Pronto results in error message "The connected device is not supported by ProntoProEdit"
3. On a call with Philips Tech Support (very helpful) we tried (among other things) to update the firmware but that process failed - the updater would stall as if there's no communication with the Pronto
4. I shipped my Pronto back to Philips and they shipped me a replacement back (app version 3.4.16).
5. The replacement unit has exactly the same problems: ProntoProEdit cannot communicate with the device and the firmware updater fails.
From the above it would seem that the PC is somehow at fault but I'm at a loss as to what the problem might be. I have no problems with any of the other USB devices attached.
It tooks almost a month to get this replacement unit and at this point I'm less than thrilled about sending the device back yet again. Before tracking down the right people in Philips tech support again, is there anyone else who's experienced this problem and gotten it resolved?
thanks
My PC is Windows XP Pro. Dual-core Pentium 3GHz. 2GB RAM.

Have you tried different USB ports and/or different PC?

I've tried different USB ports and cables with the same result. ProntoProEdit knows that something is connected (these are different messages from when there's no device connected) but is still unable to communicate properly. Unfortunately I don't have another PC I can try.

Here is what the Pronto website says about trying to reinstall the USB driver. Might be worth a try.
2. How can I install the driver?
Normally the driver is installed during the installation of ProntoProEdit NG. In case you need to re-install the driver manually, you will need to locate the inf file. This file is stored on you PC during installation of ProntoProEdit NG and is located in the folder "drivers" of your install directory (normally: "C:\Program Files\Philips\ProntoProEdit NG"). In this folder you will need to select the folder "Win 2000 XP ME" in case you are using Windows 2000/XP/ME. In the case you are running Windows 98 you will need to select the folder "Win 98SE".

I have the exact same problem that you have. I solved the problem the first time by reloading software and firmware. Then my hard drive crashed and I had it replaced. Now I get the same messages you do. When my pronto is connected to any USB the message reads Pronto pro edit unable to commuate with the device. So I go to the device manager and it tells me it needs the drivers. I haven't tried to install the driver manually but I will and let you know what happens. Also I'm going to try on another computer tomorrow.

Alien: In my case Device Manager reports the driver working OK.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the ProntoProEdit software and USB driver many times but always with the same result.
I'm not able to update the firmware in the Pronto (although it's relatively recent) because the updater is also unable to talk to the device.

Are you connected through a USB Hub or directly to the PC?
Also, are you connecting the mini-USB directly to the remote or are you attempting to connect to the back of the docking station then inserting the remote into the docking station?
Also, when you do this using the Dociking Station, do you have the AC adapter connected to the DS?

Lyndel: I've tried various permutations, all with the same result: - to USB hub - direct to USB port on PC - to USB port on docking station - to USB port on remote
When using the dock I've had the AC adaptor connected.

I don't know why but I have it working now. I don't know If this will work for you but this is how I did it. Go to device manager click on the usb port that the pronto is connected to and click on load drivers. After drivers are loaded try to connect to PPNG. Pattad I know you said that when you go into device manager it says that every thing is ok so this may not work. Also make sure that the pronto is still connected to the usb while doing this.I noticed when the usb was connected it showed a question mark. If the pronto wasn't connected it showed there was nothing wrong . I hope this helps.

Try updating your XP via windowsupdate. Then try to reload the software and USB Driver.

Alien: no luck - XP's Device Manager seem perfectly happy with the Pronto's device driver (I don't see any question marks next to the driver for example).
CarlosA: I checked and my PC is up to date with all patches from WindowsUpdate. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the sofware and driver again but no luck.
I'm not optimistic. I'll call the Philips tech help folks again but I doubt they'll be able to do any more than's been suggested above (these are all pretty much the steps I went through on the phone with them the last time before they asked me to ship my Pronto back to them).
It's a shame, I've been using Prontos since 1998 but I might have to give up soon if I can't program the device from my computer. Any recommendations for an alternative remote control?
