This morning my Pronto wouldn't transmit the REC code for my Panasonic DVR. It worked fine a couple days ago. Since then I've changed over to RF transmission (RX 6000) and have had a couple codes that needed to be re-recorded. So I tested the code thru PPENG. Worked fine. Removed the delay, saved and uploaded the file fresh.
Still didn't work on the Pronto. Tried re-recording the code in PPENG, saving again and uploading again. Still nothing. The code works fine on the original remote and in PPENG, just not with the Pronto!

Device: Panasonic DMR E80H DVR

And ideas for my next step?

Thanks,
Tam

You can verify IR emission from your
Pronto and/or RF Extender using a
Digital Camera or a Video Camera or
even a Web Cam.

With a Digital Camera you just need
to look at the Camera's LCD viewfinder
while pointing and pressing the pronto
at the lens.

Many electronic cameras can see
Infrared. From the pronto you
should see four emitters in the
camera's view finder whenever a
button is pressed. The same
can be done with the RF extender.

The emitters on the end of the small
wires running from the RF extender
may not show very well do to
their much lower output.

The camera method won't tell you if
the transmitted code is valid.

In some rare cases if the code is
extremely bad you may see a difference
in the way the IR emitters blink in
comparison to the neighboring buttons.

If nothing blinks then it's time to
examine the device's properties
to see if the RF settings are correct
in relation to the RF extender's settings.
It gets better all the time.

I'll be d----d. The camera test actually works! I can see the emitters light up very clearly in the LCD screen.

That said, my guess is that Tamvegas problem is one that is all too common in my experience - transmitted codes that once worked simply stop working. They always start working again, but the reasons for this sort of intermittent operation are obscure - at least to me. On my home setup, there are 5 codes that do this often. Three are for a Pioneer Elite receiver, and two are for a Samsung HD DirecTV receiver. I've played around with delays and persistence times (to no effect), but the number of permutations of these variables is too great to pin down a solution, if indeed those solutions exist.
