Hey, if the frequencies of these remotes and extenders are all in the 418 mHz region, and all are actually described more narrowly as 418 mHz, could you use a Pronto remote with a URC RF receiver? Or some other one? I mean, if we have a brand of remote that is the snazziest, and it puts out enough RF to light a Christmas Tree at 25 miles, but its RF receiver ain't too great, and another brand of 418 mHz RF receiver is just the bee's knees, can they be used together? Obviously, channel coding s a challenge, but how 'bout it?

I don't think so. Think you are out of luck.

I agree with Lyndel in general. That said, if the maker of the RF systems for two brands is the same, it just might work. No way to know for sure without trying it.

Give the new 6500 a shot. It should do the trick for you.

I apologize, Ernie, but I referring to the RFX6500 which is a new Philips product. This may not address all your issues (or answer your original question about mixing and matching brands), but it is certainly an improvement over the previous offering.

If you can, pop the cases on the RF extenders in question and look at the chips that handle RF reception. If they are the same, then the units are probably compatible.
