I want to load two seperate themes into my remote and use a menu to toggle between them. Is this possible? Everytime I try to download the "merged" file I get a communication error which I don't get when I try to load each theme seperately.

How are you trying to do it? Be specific about how your pcf is organized. A page is a page is a page. If you are trying to merge two separate pcfs, there are some caveats about how it needs to be done. Do a search on this forum and you will find chapter and verse about problems associated with merged files, and what to do about them.
What you want to do is certainly feasible.
