We are struggling between Maranz and Philips, and we have read the comparative review. Would appreciate recommendation as to why you prefer the Philips over the Marantz...and whether the 9800i is better (or is it just different) than the 7200.

The TSU7000 is probably a bit better than the Marantz brands, having a few more hard buttons as well as Philips being more aggressive about coming up with firmware updates. This is very important, overall. If you are interested in the Pronto TSU7000, please drop me a line at [email protected]The 9800i is more of a consumer device and is not a "Pronto" brand. Designed more for the home owner who needs a simple remote. Dave

Your response was appreciated. I know that the 7000 is in the low 400s on e-bay. I am assuming that does not include the cradle/recharger. I have downloaded the software. It looks complete albeit not super intuitive. The file from Mr. Tonks is quite good and extremely well thought out. [email protected]

I'd definitely go with Philips over Marantz. Marantz is very slow with bringing out updates.

They are slow with updates Peter, but then this could be just that they actually test the product better than philips before releasing thus negating the need for so many updates ;o)
oh and another bonus is marantz has a longer warranty and comes with abttery pack and docking station :o)

Setting aside the warranty, and setting aside the frequency of updates and just considering the product and its respective software, which remore is the most functional, powerful and has greatest (software) ease of being programmed.

The Marantz site indicates that updates, firmware and software, were posted today.
The software for the Marantz and Philips are all but identical. Is either remote more fully featured or easier to program.
It appears that the chief difference is price which is covered by the inclusion of the recharger for the Marantz. Within limits, they otherwise seem the same.

Marantz, for some reason on their update site, always have todays date as the first release which is quite annoying. Firmware version 3.2.17 is the first release for the 9500 but its been there for some time and not new today.
I believe updates are due in the last quarter of this year.
Cheers Adam

The TSU7000 comes with the charger as well. As far as Philips vs. Marantz goes, I'd really miss the extra hard buttons on the Philips and I don't have to have owned a Marantz to know this.

which remore is the most functional, I think Pronto at this time or they are the same, functional= what was added in the last FW/SW. Not to emntion a couple more hard buttons powerful should be the same and has greatest (software) ythis again depends on FW/SW they can add stuff :) ease of being programmed. they should be the same

Thank you for all of the input. Cosmetically, the Marantz appeals to me more, and I have never been fond of Philips products. However, it is clear that the Philips is the preferred unit by virtue of buttons and more frequent updates. Very helpful. Again my thanks.

The comment from MG above about being tested more is or less BS. I don't think Marantz has ever offered a Beta Test cycle on any of their remotes. What they typically do is to piggyback on Philips releases to obtain stability.
I personally have spent countless hours over the past 1.5 years beta testing the software/firmware for Philips. A statement so bold that Philips does NOT test their products is definitely out of place here.

Would those of you who Beta-tested the Wizz.it 9 software and the RC9500 please pipe up? (Daniel, that would include you :-) )
