Hi,
I got the same problem as most of you, touch screen died suddenly (RU 950). As Pronto is crucial in my HT I even bought a new one (RU950). After that I could start to analyse the problem in the old one with a good concience!
And alas, I found the fix, which will cure both dead screen but also the failing calibration (actually the same basic cause).
The nice thing about the fix is that it does not cost anything, but you have to be able to open the whole plastic cover system properly.

Disclaimer: I do not take any responsibility of this fix - you try it at your own risk!

First you have to open the plastic cover system (there are 5 torx screws holding the upper part, 4 visible and one inside). After that you may be able to take off the green rim round the touch screen. When that is done, you will see a flexible connector (plasti/carbon to copper/tin) at the upper right corner of the touch screen. And that is the cause of the problem! This is "glued" permanently to the touch screen. There are four connection points (o o o o) which should make contact with the copper/tin strips beneath them - but for some reason they lose their connectivity after some time (oxidation?). So the simple fix is to rub the connection points with a sharp object (model knife, opposite end of a needle). Be careful not to puncture the plastic (or break the glass!) but still use enough power to ensure a good contact...
If only one connection point is faulty you will get calibration error, if more, the touch screen does not work at all.
If Daniel allows, I could send some pictures to make it more clear to you all.

Hope this helps, it surely helped me - both remotes work just fine with newest firmware :-)

If you try this pls let this group know your results,

regards PeraV

Just great!

I'm new in here and came as I got this problem also.

Your fix really worked!!
Many thanks - great that you helped us like that.

do you think Philips will admit that they have a real problem with their remote?
As I see it after I opened that POS, this will be a problem for every TSU 3000
after a while (if they have not changed it in the newer versions)

PeraV,

I can't seem to locate the "hidden" screw. Can you advise and or post the pictures you were taking about earlier?

Thanks,

Rance

I think the hidden screw is under the label. If you run your finger over the label with some pressure, you will detect a "soft spot" which you can remove with a razor to reveal the screw head below.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Hi all - sorry for not responding earlier - I was kinda busy.

So to open the remote you only need to open those four screws. then you can
take off the bottom part of the remote and then you will see the fifth screw,
which attaches the upper part to the printed circuit board.

I admit it is somewhat difficult to open the lower part ( after opening the FOUR
screws) as it is connected to the upper part also with plastic teeth. But that
is the usual stuff in these kind of devices. So you have to "bend" the sides a little
bit for the teeth to give away.
Again I hope this helps, I try to send some photos when I have more time!

I'm still not getting something... I got the remote apart fairly easily but I don't get which contacts I'm rubbing where? Am I applying pressure to the top of the ribbon cable and pushing down? Am I going under the ribbon cable and "roughing up" the surface contacts??

Or am I completely off the mark....
