I am not offended, I was just stating a common complaint of most message boards...I apologize, as I was unaware of your predicament. I will shut up now...

Hi All,
Seems like I have the same problem with a customers remote I've tried firmware, reboot, and everything mentioned in this post. Is Philips aware and are they planing a new firmware fix? If they are does any one know of when?

Thanks,

Sorry to hear about arm. As many people won't know that is the reason for typing in capitals, you might find it better to type in lower case only.

I have to say, some of this doesn't make sense. I've been using my pronto for 2 years running FW version 2.3.9 as version 3.1.15 was causing me more headaches than help. All of a sudden, the screen stops working. Now, I flashed the remote and redownloaded FW version 2.3.9, and get this calibration error. I did accidently download 3.1.15 first, and got the calibration errors, but now that I've reverted to the older version, nothing works. This doesn't make sense that all of a sudden everyones is crapping out, old or new. If there was a design flaw, you'd think we would have all had problems sooner than this, and they all would not crap out at the same time, meaning new ones out of the box as well as old ones that were tried and true. I have had NO PROBLEMS to date. I've invested 80 hours or more on my config and am totally tied into one remote rather than the 9 I would have to use. Some of my components I've never even taken the remotes out of the box. While I would not be thrilled with having to buy a new pronto, I certainly am concerned that people are finding this problem with the new ones also....

Well after constantly playing with the remote, now the touchscreen stopped responding all together....grrrrrr. I'm sure if I keep reflashing it, then it will start working again, but not calibrate. I'm with John on this one, I'm done with Philips, and going to buy a Harmony 880 as soon as they are out in the mainstream.

As for Captain Howdy's request, my serial number is: 73667600 and I bought mine at buy.com in Jan 2004.

Robert, I did call Philips on this, explain the problem, but they didn't say there was a known bug or anything. Just gave me the option to send it back with a check for $160 to get a 90-day refurb.

Hello everyone. I had this problem a few months ago. The problem is the backlight driver failing. The chip can be replaced but you would need a surface mount rework station to do this. There is a member who has done a mod to upgrade the brightness. You can find him in one of the other threads and he will email you detailed pictures of the mod. Philips charges to much to fix these units. You can find refurbished units on the net for $169.95. This is what I had to do. Hopefully the new Pronto will not have all of the issues we have all had to suffer through with the 3000.

The new remote is the RC9800i. It is now shipping per Philips web site.

the RC9800i is not a Pronto, that is why it is on the homecontrol and not the Pronto website, it also has its own forum here

Good news...although not everyone would like my solution. My screen locked up and would not recalibrate. I purchased a new one online for around $200 (not great, could be worse). I then opened it up and determined it was running FW version 3.1.15, which for me started my problem. I decided to downgrade to 2.3.9. Many wouldn't like this but it works for me. I don't need timers and don't have a problem with contrast or battery life. I do dislike the delay in hitting the buttons, but that's a small price to pay for the benefit I believe I get from this remote. I downgraded the FW, downloaded my Config, and I'm back up. The last one lasted for almost 2 years, so I'm not too concerned about this happening again. Now the only decision is to ditch the old one entirely, or try and get Philips to replace it for $150 so I can use it in the master bedroom.

Same problem here...
Was working fine last night... Woke this morning. and the screen no longer reponds..
Battery is fully charged.

Tried re-installing firmware.. (latest) no good.

Reset button etc..... no good...

Where can I get a copy of the prior firmware version to go backwards?

Any word from philips on this, other than send us the remote and more money...

email me and I'll send you the zip file. I'll also tell you how to downgrade as it's not normally done, but once you know the trick it takes about 10 minutes.

Same problem. Had the failing calibration problem a while ago, then this crap with the non-responsive touch screen buttons. Touch pad responds to touch by turning on the backlight, but sends no codes. Hard buttons work fine.

Phillips needs to assume some responsibility here. This product should not be failing at this point in it's lifespan. My RC5000 still works like a charm. Replacing it with a refurbished unit for almost as much as I paid for my new one is not a solution I am willing to accept.

Phillips - handle this the right way, or a lot of people are going to be buying someone else's remote.
